yeah... Thats been their coach for a long time, and by ALL accounts a great guy.



I dont know why there are people so happy... this is a sad day. The next happy day will be when we make a good hire. Until then, it is a bad time, IMHO

Tedford always cared for his players - based on players' tweets; like a father to many of them.

Kind of a long meeting for what should have been a short announcement.
All I could think of was "Check with me."

Not a happy day. I really feel bad for the players. I don't imagine any serious Cal fans wanted it to come to this. Sandy did what she had to do, but pretty much everyone wanted to see JT turn it around. It didn't happen, and that's sad.

It is a sad day. Necessary but still sad. He was, I think, a great mentor to the players but just not, in the end, a great manager. A big part of the job is figuring out how to delegate, holding the right people accountable, and being able to take a long view of what needs to get done. Hard - lord knows every day I try to work on being a better manager.

I actually feel happy for them. With new leadership for the program, there is at least reason to hope that success will soon come. Had Tedford and his staff been retained, it is quite likely that another disappointing season would be in their future. After the shock subsides, the players should be optimistic about the future.

Having just gone through a divorce, even if ultimately for the good of all concerned, the process is hard and there is sadness that things did not work out as hoped. Better days ahead!

I wonder if Bigelow was one of the players sad to see Tedford go.

It's a sad day but JT, Cal and the players all have bright futures ahead.

He connected to many of the players and I'm not surprised how disappointed the players sound.

You must've missed the locker room celebration after UCLA where Biggie gives him a huge hug from behind and puts his head on him like a son hugs his father.

I could share something about Bigelow, but I won't because I don't share everything that comes to my mind. Heaven helps us if I did.

It has been very clear from heartfelt hugs in post game celebrations that most if not all of the players like JT a lot. No matter what you can say about him, there is clear evidence that he has a deep care and concern for his players.

For that, I expected tears and lots of emotion on this announcement. It also puts them all into another unknown situation which is anxiety causing.

Hopefully we can get a new HC and staff in place soon and then I think our players will settle in and be able to move forward. They deserve it. Its been a very tough year for them.

As far as I'm concerned we should take what the players say as an indication of a coaches relationship with them and not speculation of forum posters. Looking at Avery Sebastian's comments on Twitter it's clear that there was a lot of appreciation for Tedford by the players.

Just one of "life's lesson's," for these kids. Some will benefit; some won't.

All of the players to a man seem devastated by this news via twitter.
Many of the football alums have also tweeted similar sentiments.

It'll turn into a teachable moment.

So you can add lack of class and character to being a statue of a QB.

Right...I think you can be the biggest proponent of Tedford being fired, and still realize that this isn't a great day. I remain optimistic about the future, but its too bad it came to this. Obviously, there was a time that many believed Tedford would only be leaving to take a job in the NFL...

Tedford has always been a classy guy and always cared about the players. Not all of them (or us) may have agreed with all his decisions, but he is a good guy and deserves to be treated as such.

It's a real shame many here felt the need to disparage, hammer and hate Jeff Tedford over the past few weeks.

I didn't like a lot of his decisions but really, why go after him?

From the player's perspective - they came to play for one of the all time great coaches, who treated everyone like family. They then had a horrible losing season, and their coach and mentor all of the assistants got fired. That is pretty hard to take.

PS, SB also addressed the players after Coach Tedford, at the meeting.
