He is a great coach and a potential good hire, just a big personnel shift for us. LA Tech has ONE Tight end on their roster with a grand total of ZERO catches this season. They simply do not use a TE in his offense. They do have 18 wide receivers on the roster. It will take a year or two if Dykes comes to adjust our roster, we have 5 or 6 TE's on the roster with a big commit in Ray Hudson. Fans might have to be a bit patient with Sonny Dykes until he gets a roster to fit his offense. Tough for a guys like Richard Rogers, Spencer Hagan, Jacob Wark and Maximo if that happens. But lots of upside with Dykes if he is Sandy's guy.

Shades of Mouse Davis and David Lewis.

I'd love to see our next coach use spread/hurry-up principles with TEs (like the Patriots are doing?).

Maybe we can send our next coach to study Belichick. Oh wait...

F-it, he should go study Chip Kelly in Philly.

Wasn't he the OC at Arizona when the Gronk was there?

I remember the Gronk a big part of the offense.

Rodgers would be used as one of the four wideouts just as Gronk was in AZ and just as Gronk and Hernandez are in NE. This is a really stupid OP. Sorry, but there is no point to it....

Didn't gronk catch like 3 tds in a game and was an absolute beast in that offense before his injury?

Yes. As is Hernandez, when healthy. Gronk was an NCAA beast at AZ when Dykes was OC there....

bearblast isn't doing well on the posts. 1st he says Cal shouldn't pay Tedford a dime because he isn't really looking for a job (because he allegedly declined to pursue the Colorado job).

Now disses Dykes for never using a TE even though he coached AA Gronkowski at Arizona.

:p

First post wasn't me, never commented on tedford and colorado, second post said LA Tech has one TE on their roster with zero catches, Arizona was Stooops team, he was OC but does LA Tech refeect Dykes philosophy more accurately ?

He was at both places three years. I imagine you work your system with what you have. He probably would have recruited Rodgers as a WR - which he played in High School. I really don't see any difference....

Well Dykes could simply adjust his schemes to incorporate a TE. For all we know, maybe he would be glad to do it, but couldn't get quality TEs at LaTech.

Yes, a very reasonable answer.

Not gonna change his offense. He would just take a 6'4" 220 lb TE and have him line up in the slot as one of fhe WR's. JT did that a lot with Rodgers.

You mean a coach that will change their scheme based on their personnel?

I am flabbergasted!!

Precisely. There is no reason for any offensive system to be so inflexible.

Tedford's system underutilized the TE (even with NFLers stevens or morrah, the TE was targeted much less than at USC and much much less that at Stanford), so this of all things is not too concerning. I'm sure dykes could find a use for the JT's 'best TE in the country'.

More concerning is how much or how little he really wants to run the QB. La Tech's QB ran 61 times this year... we have pro style QB's. I thought Az ran the QB some under Dykes and TT did not do that at all. Would Dykes cut that aspect a bit? If not, could that affect Goff's commitment? Timeline is short, so that of all things probably shouldn't matter.
