Listen, of all the Candidates that are left, all have some pluses but none are worth giving three to five years, so why take a chance on any of them. Let's at least put it in Sandy's ear to consider Ron Gould for 1 year interim Coach which allows us to pick from all the Bowl Coaches as well as all the NFL assistants after both seasons are over. If nothing works out, we then have all year and who knows it may be end up being another De LaSalle like story. The difference is he can coach. Besides it's not like he doesn't deserve it after 16 years of loyalty. The players would be thrilled and the recruits would stay, heck we might be able to steal a few with him as the head Coach for obvious reasons.


No, we should not of kept Jeff, he was no longer functioning as required of a head coach.
1) Refusal to simplify play book so young talented players could hit the field.
2) 8+8 does = 16
3) Quarterback evaluation
4) Quarterback development
5) Ability to put the best talent on the field
6) Downward spiral of performance on the team.
Etc...Etc....


What we did have, in my opinion were some damn good assistants, who like Tosh, seem to turn or lose interest under Tedford. Why blame them for the downward turn. Maybe even two co-coaches. Lets try it for a year. It's better than putting all in on MacIntyre , Hazel and all the other B list. This is the most important hire in Cal history. If this next hire fails, it's all bad. Why Gamble At All? Let's extend the decision process for a year, resulting in a better pick of candidates while a much deserved on the field audition by Ron Gould goes on.

This is a terrible idea. A hire like MacIntyre is a legitimate option still.

We'll probably wait until Feb 1 to hear word from Petersen. At that point in time Sandy and the rest of BI will realize that Petersen is never coming to Cal. Despite this, there will still be a few stragglers screaming for us to wait longer for Petersen.

By then, all the other mid-major coaches will either take other jobs by then or recommit to their current program.

Cal will be left scrambling in Feb to hire a coach and we'll have two options:

1) Ron Rivera
2) Hue

Obviously, what we've done hasn't worked. Why not take a new approach and stay calm and trust Sandy and the process? If after this we hire Hue, you have my permission to freak the f@ck out. I know I will be.

Yes, this is very reminiscient of the boards 15 days ago. Do you realize how much less traffic there would have been on the boards in those days before Thanksgiving had people made that choice you advocate not to panic? Do you realize how much more we would have had to spend our time working for a living instead of reading and posting on these very boards if we chose not to panic??

You advocate sensible, rational, emotionally healthy choices. You don't understand, that's not what we're about here.

Of course, I may secretly be in the closet, not panicking, confident that we'll end up with a good choice as coach, as I was confident 15 days ago that Tedford would get the boot, but even if I felt that way, I wouldn't want to be a wet blanket and admit that, not when there is so much panicking to be done!!
