I hope he does well. I have fond memories of my time in Knoxville. Those fans are the greatest in the world.

Yes, Cincinnati's Butch Jones is our new coach.

I think this is a very good hire. Not great, but very good. He has the rsum, he has the acumen, and he has a certain toughness about him.

Press conference was seen on ESPNU yesterday and is up on YouTube if you want to see it.

At first Volunteer fans were very angry with the hire. It was almost vitriolic, simply because he wasn't Jon Gruden. And he is originally from Michigan, so the northern connection didn't resonate right away. But most fans, after watching the press conference, have warmed up to him and have started to slowly embrace him. He wasn't my first choice, personally, but I like the hire.

Sounds a lot like the reaction to Dykes' hire. Best of luck to you Vols. I hope that Butch gets you guys to the promised land.

What are the reasons why Fullmer hasn't been rehired? I hate to say it but when I think of Fullmer I think of our own JT.

It really depends on who you ask. There are many who blame Fulmer for where we are, and many who blame the administration for the way things were handled behind the scenes in the last years of Fulmer's tenure.

In my opinion, I think it was out of concern that bringing Fulmer would be a return to the past and the old ways. Fulmer, as great as he was and still is, demonstrated a bit of an unwillingness to adapt to the changing landscape of college football.

Interesting analysis. Fulmer could recruit. He always had talented kids including Manning, Foster, Eric Berry, et al. Tedford did too.

Unfortunately, Tedford became too adaptive, and, so much so, that many of us felt he lost his identity.

I think that's the big secret. The game is constantly changing, and you have to find a good balance in how you adapt to the changes. If you don't adapt enough, then your game plans become stale and teams become more prone to figuring you out. If you become too adaptive, you confuse your players and you lose sight of what your true identity as a football team is. You have to meet somewhere in the middle. That is why some of the best coaches today are still successful.
