I thought it would be between 2 and 2.5. Now I know it is at least $2.5 mil

damn ... and Tedford was at $2.3 AFTER having success and reversing the Holmoe slide.
Colorado was desperate.
Hope Sandy is more reasonable and allows nice bucks for assistants.

I am going to guess 2.4, or 2.5 mil a yr, same as Mora.

I thought I read somewhere that Dykes was getting $1.5M.

So Dykes starts off with more than Tedford's salary?

Holy crap. I would have guessed Mac at $800-900k. He's going to live like a god out there. Denver area is very low cost of living.

I'm guessing Dykes gets 2.2mil for 3-4 years contract

I don't believe it.

$1.5m at most.

Wow, considering the former coach (Embree) was making $750K, this is a huge statement by the Buffs.

Eh, I don't know that that salary is necessarily indicative of the market rate for Pac-12 coaches. Based on some of the horror stories re: CU's lack of support for the program (see: Embree allegedly having to buy bottled water for his coaches out of pocket) and publicly whiffing on their number one choice, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a CU premium at play here. Basically they're such a **** show, they need to pay more to get the same coaches.

Dykes basically came out and said he wanted the job before it even opened. He also had some competition from other names, even if we don't know how much. MacIntyre clearly negotiated from a much stronger position than Dyke did.

Leach and Rich Rod are making around $2 million base at WSU and Arizona. I would be surprised if Dykes outearns Tedford and shocked if he's north of $2.5.

If Dykes goes 9-3 next year, and is wooed by other schools, what kind of raise will he get?

I would've guessed Mac might get between 1.5 and 1.75 (either at Cal or in Col.)... Anybody know how much the last guy there got (Embry?)?

I would be surprised if Dykes is making 2.5 here, but I could be wrong.

If these figures are true, honestly, the whole thing is out of control. They should have to prove themselves at a lower salary first. Indeed, I understand how market forces work, but at some point there's going to be an uproar in this country.

The papers were quoting $13.5 M over 5 years for Butch Jones, or $2.7M per year

CU is in Boulder.

Embree was making less than $1 million per -

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2012/11/19/ncaa-college-football-head-coaches-salary-database/1715543/

It was $725k per year, plus incentives of up to $1.4 million per yearr more (I don't think any were met).

CU definitely has a toxic vibe after the way they did the JE firing and Embree's subsequent comments on top of 7 straight losing seasons, most so pathetic that the fan base has been severely eroded.

I would guess they had to guarantee more money and more years to get a reputable candidate to accept the job, so CU is likely overpaying to compensate for the empty cupboard and the huge risk of it being a dead end. That said, Mac seems like a much better choice than Butch Jones. Or one with at least more upside?

Cal is a much more sought after position IMO, so if we are paying less than CU, that is reasonable - and when the wins come, Cal will pay more. Of course, I have no idea how much we're paying Dykes - all I'd want is a defined and more favorable buyout, and if that's present in the contract, I'd think it's more than OK to pay SD $2.0 million, $2.5 million or whatever really.

huge statement about how desperate they are!

if they are giving him a higher salary than Embree, then they're gonna have a hard time shaking the sense that the folks running that program are racist. think back to what the former coach said about how they did Embree, and now they're giving far more money to a white coach.

What gives? I thought one problem with the Colo position was that it did not want to pay the big bucks.

There was no new media deal or Pac-12 Network when they hired Embree. All you have to do to counter that argument is look at what Paul Wulff made at WSU and what Mike Leach makes now.

I can just imagine the conversation:

CU: Coach Mac, how'd you like to coach the Buffs?
Mac: No thanks, my wife like's SJ.
CU: We'll double your salary.
Mac: Nah.
CU: Triple.
Mac: Nah.
CU: Quadruple?
Mac: You've got a deal.
CU: Great!
Mac: Now how much do I get for assistants?
CU: What assistants?

The other site speculated Dykes was going to get between $1.5 and 2 million, which I think is reasonable until any future renegotiation.

Why is it I think Cal is going to start 1-2 with two respectable losses to Ohio State and Northwestern while Colorado is going to start 3-0 with Fresno State being their best win, and someone is going to write a post blasting Sandy for not hiring Mac and claiming Dykes is a massive failure?

Chad Morris just signed an extension at Clemson. 1.3M per year as the OC. It is out of control.

MacIntyre is a good choice for the Buff job. He is accustomed to fighting uphill battles at his last two stops. Hope they are patient with him.

I would take DeRuyter's FSU team over Mac's 1st season CU team. Even in optimal conditions, I don't think CU will be competitive til Mac's 3rd season with the talent they have on hand.
