Love the guys who have always bled blue and gold, and those who are truly self-motivated and self-starters. This kid looks like a great combination of the two.

Cal is #24 on Rivals. ESPN shows us at around #38 (maybe not updated?) and I'm not sure about Scout.
Forgive me if I am being dense and just missing it, but it sounds like he has 2 to play 2?
ESPN's not updated yet but they have Cal with 7 4 stars, a decent amount more than the other services.
Kragen has 3 to play 2 and will be an early entrant so he'll participate in spring camp.

I'm especially hoping we are have some DTs lined up. We are already somewhat lacking in depth there and that was before rumours of moving to a 4/3. Also OGs and maybe another RB?

didn't use his redshirt year when he was at DVC. NCAA rules allow a player 5 years to play 4 seasons once the eligibility clock starts.
Agree. It looks like we've picked up some really nice defensive ends, but defensive tackles seem to be a bit light. Hoping we get a nice flip in that area as it appears good defensive tackles are far and few this year.
When I worked and coached sports in Pleasanton the dad Greg Kragen was someone I knew when he was at Amador Valley High School. I had wished he would of gone to Cal, but, as he states, could not get in. Another kid I coached around the same time who went to the NFL was Keith Millard who went to Foothill High.
I remember well when Greg and Keith came back to Pleasanton in the off season and we went to a restaurant. I actually rode in Keith's car with a couple of other players. Could you imagine all of us in Keith's little car like a Renault Dauphine?

Scout has us with 2 ****'s (Hunt & Goff), 13 ***'s and 4 **'s (Kragen, Hughes, McTyer & Akins). Not a stellar recruiting class by their standards.

Is Scout THE authority or might one look at Rivals and ESPN also.
[U]Cal has thrived in the past with players like these when they were properly coached and allowed to play.

#36 right now on Scout (not updated) and #38 in average star rankings.
Considering we are in the middle of a coaching change, that is not bad.
Hopefully the new staff finishes strong, gets guys that can help, and then we win and create excitement this Fall--leading to huge 2014 class.
