This is the most embarrassing thread I think I've ever seen on BI. Makes Cal fans look like a bunch of naive, whiny, smug, pissant haters. Here's what I've learned:
1. We want to be successful but don't know what it takes to be successful and hate people who do.
2. We are mad that we aren't spending enough money to cheat as well as the teams that win.
3. A school in the homeless capital of the world, next to the murder capital of the world, makes fun of a state they've never been to based on cliches about mobile homes and rednecks. Clearly, there are no racist, backwardsass rednecks in CA. "From what I hear," (???) if you think you have a better education, but base your opinions solely on hearsay, you don't.
4. A school that gets to cherry pick students and has an extensive UC/CSU system underneath it makes fun of a public university that is tasked to educate ALL the students of its state. Yet somehow Bama, in a state with 1/7 the population, competes pretty close with Cal historically on #s of national merit finalists admitted. (2006 = 67 to 52 from memory -may be +/-) Yet this same Cal hates Stanford because of how smug and cocky they are. Oh, the Furdie hubris!
5. A team that is now best known currently for Desean Jackson and Marshawn Lynch (oh, and Butte Comm College's A. Rodgers) stereotypes the academic prowess of the winning team, but apparently cannot be bothered to listen to the intelligent, well-spoken post game interviews with Nico Johnson and others. Tony G and Scott F are a history, folks. Right now, Cal sucks in terms of football academics. Rationalize all you want, but that degree in Skittles and Golf Carts is not that impressive.
6. A school who puts Alex Mack up as a standard, can't appreciate Barrett Jones, who now has 3 national championships playing 3 different positions. Here is some info on Jones:
"Off the field, he has earned a degree in accounting graduating summa cum laude in August 2011 with a 4.0 grade point average. He is currently working on his masters again maintaining a 4.0 GPA. In addition, he was honored as one of 11 members of the 2011 Allstate AFCA Good Work "which honors football student-athletes for exemplary community service." Jones won the 2012 William V. Campbell Trophy, an award given by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame to college's football's "best and brightest." He is a 2010 and 2011 Academic All-American and in 2012, he earned distinction as the Football Academic All-America Team Member of the Year.[3] He received the 2011 ARA Sportsmanship Award and 2011 Wuerffel Trophy for combined athletic, academic and community service achievement. On December 6, 2012, Jones was awarded the Rimington Trophy as the best center in college football."
7. Of course we are not going to know that Bama's Accounting school is very highly ranked.
8. We will continue to insist that good teams only win because they get any player they want, yet Bama really wanted Keenan Allen. Somehow, I think if KA had gone to Bama, he would be a better person than he is today, and would be a team player remembered by all the fans for his positive accomplishments instead of having people say how much better we might be without him. If you think that is an isolated case, then look at the dynamic with Jackson as well.
9. We make fun of a team for being "organized" and having an "organization" that, I don't know, has a "plan" and "goals", perhaps working together to achieve those? Haas apparently isn't doing a very good job. But, "I hear" Bama has a good school of management, where they teach "organizational methods."
So, yeah, Cal fans, continue to wallow in your delusional loser rationalizations. Maybe next year.
