Cal has one verbal in the final top 300, Goff. Come on Sonny work some magic.

Can someone knowledgeable about such things handicap our chances of landing Cochran? Who else do we have a legit shot with?

Close to 50% from chat scuttlebutt. He likes oklahoma too. Force me to pick one school and I'd guess he ends up a bear but he's not a lock.

and the recruitment of two 6'-5"+ but lesser known wide receivers tells me he is recruiting for fit, not stars. I also like the work he's done on the Oline, if he keeps Hunt and gets Cochran, I think the bears have a very strong Oline base to develop from.

I hope we land Riley Sorensen... Besides Goff, Hunt, Bunte, Sorensen, Hinnant will be key to this class..

SD is focusing on the 2-3 star kids because the 4-5 star kids are not a good fit? Do I have that right? No room for Eddie V. on the D line, DLS kids, etc.?
What the recent commits appear to tell is that this class is trending toward an average finish. That is good enough for now but nothing close to what Mora pulled off last year under similar circumstances.

We have 3 in the ESPN 300: Goff, Cameron Hunt and Dannon Cavil.

Still a month left to go, so there is time to make something happen. Looks to me though like SD and company are shoring this up to be a very solid across the board class without the big star power that we have had with some past classes.
When what it seems like we need is depth in most places, this is not such a bad thing. Also, getting us back in the game with JC players is going to mean some guys who are a little less highly touted, though not neccessarily worse players.

Good luck signing some of these guys. I know we're doing our best, too.

I think that one of the problems with JT is that later in his careeer he "sold his soul" to recruit classes with a lot of star power.
Some of those star recruits came with a lot of strings and baggage: KA, DJ are the most obvious. But let's not forget the recruits who came on board and felt like they did not have to toe the line in practice and in the classroom. Let's not forget those recruits who wanted to have good game stats more than helping the team win.
Many of those star recruits failed to really help the team at all. Some just couldn't cut it academically and flunked out. I won't even mention the most recent highly touted recruit who is not returning to Cal because of "grades".
Others just could not live up to their hype.
