I know Kwame well and am convinced he has done nothing wrong. These allegations have been distorted by a traditionally irresponsible media.

The truth will be revealed during the trial and I can assure you with 100% certainty the court will rule in his favor. I am willing to testify on his behalf if necessary

wow, a story about a gay recently-ex-pro athlete that doesn't even explicitly mention that he's gay.. things have come a long way

The first article listed on google has the story under 6 gay keyword topics. Is that explicit enough for you?

Did the article say whether the underwear was of the edible variety and whether they were past the sell by code?

A friend of mine is close to these two. According to him, Kwame's boyfriend has a long history of hardship and chemical dependence. Kwame is very clean cut and quite the opposite (opposites attract, so they say).

Kwame has tried many times to calm some of his boyfriend's outbursts and usually is forced to do something that gets him into trouble. Hopefully they will end this relationship.

Yeah... Hardship, chemical dependence and underpants...

Rough for that poor guy to get caught up in in a relationship with a guy who pantythiefs in his outbursts and has to be beat in public to get him to stop ...

Sounds legit

They went out of their way to say "plate" glass window, but not that he was gay.

What do they have against plate glass that they have to state the obvious?

I'm thinking the same thing, although it was great to see Brendon Ayanbadejo do what he is doing this week.

yeah and Ayanbadejo was doing that stuff earlier -- his words several months ago caused a state politician to send a note to the owner of the Ravens telling him to get his player back in line, which led to one of Chris Kluwe's much-talked-about editorials.

well.. ok, but that article isn't about the incident itself but uses it as a jumping-off point to discuss the state of gay athletes in pro sports, so the tags make sense. regardless, I was talking about one author's choices, I'm sure you'll find other articles that make sure to point out his sexuality.

I find it ironic that the ultra-conservative, right wing, Hoover Institute-harboring, Limbaugh-like 'Furddies now have an out football player with anger issues and a child predator as a former kicker.

Well, I missed this story previously, but found the thread and will pose this question for you all to take aim at. (I just picked it up by watching this interesting article/video about Kwame Harris here.)

I am glad gay rights are finally being sorted out in our society. Definitely positive developments, and I look forward to more. But here's the issue that spooks most straight young men out, and it kinda needs to be answered and the answer commonly known in order for everyone to get over it (don't worry, gay guys don't want to hit on straight men.)

So, here goes: if I were in a women's locker room, I'd be noticeably appreciative of my showering teammates. Kid in a candy store, right? -At least when I was younger and had little control over such instinctive bodily reactions. So, how is it for gay men, how would it be for gay athletes in a football locker room? What would stop them from having normal, natural reactions that would alter the mood in the room?

Go ahead, destroy my ignorance.

Sounds like you've never been close to a locker room before or after practice or a game.
Putting on the pads before, taking them off after but much more slowly after the pounding
... it's NOT a problem.

So instead of a kid in a candy store, imagine yourself in the locker room of a semi pro womens rugby team. And these girls are basically ragged as all heck right now. Not to mention sweaty, dirty, smelly, some injured, blood all over their shirts etc. Now imagine that you've gotten to know these girls for a while and see them like sisters.

Now imagine that you look and feel just as awful.

Still in a candy store?

But really, the point is that these "gay" athletes are already in your locker room. They've just been closeted. So logic would have it that if they were in control of themselves in the locker room before, they should be so still.

A outed gay player in the NFL? It will happen. It might take a star and will need someone of even temperament. But how?

Winning fixes a lot of thing, including prejudice and bigotry. Some Southern players on the Brooklyn Dodgers hated Jackie Robinson when he first joined the team. What changed their minds? WINNING! Those players who hated him realized he made them better and won. In fact these guys came to his defense when the hate came at him. That's not small potatoes when you consider the 40s were fully segregated and the legacy of slavery.

The arguments against African American players in MLB back in the day aren't that much different against gays - it'll divide the locker room, yada, yada, yada. Well it's the same old crap at the core: FEAR. Once they figure out there's nothing to fear, the change will happen. (Oh yeah, a bunch of education will have to happen as well.)

You guys may have heard of 25 year old American soccer player Robbie Rodgers announcing his retirement and coming out in a blog post a few weeks back. The English Football Association (where he last played) promptly issued a statement in his support.

This article might interest you guys:

Yup, I've been watching Ken Burns' "Baseball" documentary series, and when I got the part about Jackie Robinson it was amazing how similar the arguments against him were to those against gay people getting married, playing team sports, etc. And yes, it's the same level of bulls*** now that it was back then.
