And those of us of even older "certain age":

I still remember marching down several blocks with my entire fifth grade class to see Disney's "The Living Desert" at the old tower. RIP

Where exactly is that (and the Pussycat Theater)? I live in the area, so I'm curious.

Wrong. You might want to check out this excellent documentary on that very subject:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/inside-lara-roxx-the-deadly-price-of-porn-fame/article543160/

Quote:

Roxx became famous in 2004 at age 21, after being exposed to HIV while doing a pornographic scene with Darren James. She allegedly contracted the disease just two months after doing her first scene, a double anal.

Anal is already risky because it causes tears in your bumhole that make it easier for the virus to get in. Putting two in there is pretty just asking to get it, based on the massive fissures you'd probably get.

Although, give credit where credit is due; she's got majorly huge balls for taking a seriously deep plunge (no pun intended) so early on...

..and since you raise the subject, I wonder how Harry Reems' health is doing?

The northeast corner of 51st and Telegraph, directly across 51st Street from Bakesale Betty.

68, I'm a little confused by the picture you posted. That site is located on what is now the corner of 51st and Telegraph, but in your picture, there is a building to the right of the theater, where 51st street is now. Was 51st Street re-routed (or maybe widened) after the picture was taken (in 1966), or is that picture showing the theater from a different angle?

When I was in school, that site served as a landmark for "We're almost at Bertola's." (I swear.)

Apparently the odds of contracting HIV from an HIV positive woman is between 1 in 300 to 1 in 1000, provided you use the front door. The real risk factor comes from getting reamed in the behind (some say chance of infection is as high as 1 in 10).

The theater was demolished awhile back. I believe it's still an empty lot.

You might want to imagine a vacant lot, a smog test center, and a Wallgreens.

I'm pretty sure 51st was widened during the late 60s, early 70s, from Broadway moving towards Telegraph. My recollection is that there was no island dividing the road and it was just two lanes. I don't know if this affected the theater.....I don't recall the building on the right in 68's photo but I was too young to remember anyway.

Can this thread be removed from the FOOTBALL board? Porn stars dying or people here arguing over what gays do sexually has nothing to do with this board. Maybe we are Cal, so we have to have the freakshow topics other boards do not have. Some misguided freedom of speech argument.

To be fair, Ron Jeremy probably knows more about tight ends than the rest of us combined.

Wouldn't surprise me if he had a hand in coaching our o-line last year. How else can you explain all the gaping holes we saw?

Cool. Awesome. Thanks.

I love looking at old photos, but I've mostly found really old photos of Temescal, like from the 20s, 30s and 40s, or earlier. It's great to see photos more "recent" when you can actually recognize the buildings.

This is Telegraph below 51st in 1892. (From OaklandNorth.net)

50th and Telegraph, looking North in 1946.

55th and Telegraph, 1946.

the Genova Deli - best meat ravs in NorCal (and best rav sauce too) - don't know if the Telegraph location is still operating, but I do know that their operation in Walnut Creek is still going strong (I believe they shifted their factory there in the 70's) - also, Safeway carries the ravs and sauce but I like to pick them up at the source (and unfrozen) whenever I can

The Genova Deli is still in business, now located in the Walgreens strip mall at the SW corner of 51st/Tele. I remember the old location in the 80s on Telegraph and got the rav in the boxes. Use to grab a sandwich there before a FB every so often and bring it. That area is slowly going hipster.

Yup...and they have hot chicks working there, as I recall...I visit it sometimes, as it's in the same strip mall as my post office.

next FB season, I'll pick up a couple of boxes and sauce on the way home - it'll get me out of the dog house (for slipping away to the game in lieu of "chores") and since they only need boiling water (ravs) and a sauce pan (sauce) I'll be able to keep a beer bottle in my hand while "cooking" - probably snag some of the tomato sauce / anchovy bread (foccacia? - sp?) too - already starting to drool and it's 9-10 months away
