Maybe our prom date is not so fat and ugly after all :p

I wonder how much that picture had to do with anything ... Hunt's parents can't be too thrilled either ...

Wh*regon offered too late imo. They expected him to commit a week before signing day, which was probably unrealistic. I'm sure he spent $100's on Cal swag after his visit.

Yep - per twitter -

Oregon was the dream growin' up, and I had a nice visit. But My Future's at Cal, and I can't wait to get there and go to work! #GoBears

Can you be Ragin' and tweet at the same time. In any case it is a Ragin' tweet in my book and a major victory for Cal. I wonder if this influences Hunt at all. It certainly can't hurt.

Decided he didn't want to have to use a snorkel on the practice field.

stoked to have Ragin. I liked him a lot from what I read about him, and I fully expected him to flip to Oregon and wouldn't have faulted him for it at all. Kind of like with Cavil, I admired both kids and still do... although I probably like Ragin a little more at this point ;-)

I'll follow both kids' careers, but Ragin just made that job a little easier.

Perhaps he actually meant it when he said academics were paramount?

Whatever the reason, makes my evening. (Re)welcome to Cal, Johnny. Best decision of your young life.

Great news. Really like this kid. He seems like a real mature young man- especially after expressing so much interest in BYU because of their honor code. Oregon may be the sexy program right now, but it certainly aint the place to be if you want to be consistently around guys that exude honor, ethics, and a commitment to academics.

This is huge. You don't think this kid is going to be a major inspiration in that locker room! And, everywhere else...

Since he got his deus ex machina offer from O and since his OV there this weekend, I noticed he never took "Committed to Cal Berkeley" or "Forever Faithful" off his twitter page...

And, just a day later, his decision. I'm impressed. Reminds me of a famous statement by another Johnny:

“Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.” –John Wayne.

These are the type of guys we need in the program. Seems like a Cal guy through and through.

4 star LB with a great personality and a good head on his shoulders? That doesn't come around very often. Go Bears! Hopefully we keep Hunt and get a few DBs on NSD!

What great news. I think the openness and honesty of the new staff is resonating with certain types of recruits that we want, and that's a good thing.

Welcome to Cal (again), JR!

If it sticks, let's credit Barry Sacks with the save here. He has shown that you don't have to be a 20-something and play MW3 online to reach kids. Well done, Barry!

+1 ... Ragin was seriously tempted by the option of attending his dream school. Of course he took time to consider that. To have him look seriously at Oregon, offer or not, then decide Cal is the place for him is great ... for him and for Cal.

Looking forward to seeing the actual commit post, nothng's done until it's done, no closure yet. I think he'll have a great opportunity here .. for a world-class education and for really testing himself in Sonny's system.

It was obviously - at least I thought so - a tongue in cheek commentary on CERTAIN CAL INTERNET FANS who hang on the every twitter utterance of these kids, and NOT about Hunt or Ragin. You know, player A committed and he's the greatest human being since Mother Theresa. Player B decommits and his entire value as a human changes because he decided to go to a different school.

I thought "Al Qaida sympathizer" was obviously over the top enough that people would get it. But just in case included the always popular "kitty mauler" accusation to make sure people saw it was in jest. Come on people, use your brains. I can't believe the mods removed the post...give me a break.

Although only a 3* guy, this would be a very encouraging sign as far as recruiting for this first class.

Frankly I am shocked and very happy. This is a BIG get/save by the new Cal staff. I was sure he was a goner getting his dream offer at the last second. I guess you could argue that it came too late but at the end of the day he wanted to be at Cal more, which is a credit to the staff (and the school, of course).

Yes it was clearly over-the-top sarcasm, but you have to understand, it was said about a recruit who technically is still in play, so to remove any doubt I've found that using the :sarc: emoticon, while somewhat lessening the humor, is the safest way to operate on these boards.

Well, I'm surprised. Glad to have him back again though and I'll assume the coaching staff was able to hang on even with the late push from his dream school.

Sometimes what you call a dream school when you're a young kid becomes an ugly suckling when you actually visit the inner domain and see the sleazy bits. If you're not well-travelled then your eyes will open to a whole new world than your little cocoon when you actually travel to new places.

Ok - I feel a little better right now. That would have been a major blow to have our best recruits sniped the week before signing day - especially when the class this year does not have the depth of last year's class.
