I was there as well, and in the context of how simple his offense is to learn, someone asked the question (in a sarcastic tone, intending to knock JT, IMO) something like this:
"Coach, last year, we had a kid on our roster who shredded Ohio State by the name of Brenden Bigelow but couldn't get playing time the rest of the year because he supposedly couldn't learn our enormous playbook...do you think that will be a problem this year?"
Dykes paused for a second, and then answered, "in our offense, if he knows his left and his right he'll be okay". Clearly (IMO) not confirming whether this was a problem or not, nor trying to slam the previous staff.
Being there, hearing the tone of the original question and in context of the simplicity of his offense, I thought Dykes did a nice job of making a point about the simplicity of his system and injecting a little humor into the moment to keep the event moving along.
