Is there anyone on our rugby team that we can "borrow" this upcoming Fall that can help our team? Of course, not on a football scholarship.

Bears now play 7's rugby in the fall (an Olympic sport in 2016).
In addition they are 2 very different games. For example in rugby, there is no blocking and ALL tacklers must use their arms and wrap up.
Easiest way to differentiate -- football is a collision sport, rugby is a contact sport.
CAL RUGBY FOREVER!

Professional rugby is huge in Europe especially in the UK and Russia. I wonder if playing pro rugby overseas is a viable option for American football players who don't make it to the NFL. Has any Cal gridder gone on to play rugby at the professional level overseas?

Several Cal rugby players have including Kort Schubert, Mike MacDonald, and Chris Biller.
Jacob Waasdorp (former all Pac-10 d-lineman) played rugby his last year at Cal and played a few years of high level (though not professional) rugby in ireland and australia.
Waasdorp had to cut a lot of weight and improve his fitness in his 1st year of rugby, but once he adjusted his strength and athleticism made him a really good prop (front row player).
The two sports are pretty fundamentally different though in a lot of ways. That said, a guy like Bigelow would be world class if he spent a couple years playing rugby at a position like Wing.

The USA Eagles 7's have a player that until recently never played rugby. He is a top 40 100 sprinter in the US with a reported 10.13 wind aided time. He reminds me alot of Jahvid and I was thinking a guy like Bigelow or Lasco would be a great inside/outside center or right wing in XV or a winger in 7's. Former football player Garrett Cross came back after leaving football and played (a prop or hook I can't remember) and JP Hurrell is currently on the team as a prop.

Loren Hawley. One of the greatest American players ever and a Golden Bear footballer also (TE, I think). Played Rugby League (pro version in England for several years thereafter). And, no, I'm not related, just still impressed.
