This saturday, Feb 16, British Columbia visits the Cal Bears 'Pitch'(Witter Field)

BC brings the best combination of speed, size, tough-guy and skill that the Bears will face until tournament time. The Sat game is the first half of the
'World Cup' series. The second-half game will be played at British Columbia.
The total scores of the 2 games will decide the winner of the 'Cup'.

Cal has manhandled all competition so far with a combination of starters and
2/3 string players. The Bears will need to put their top 15 players on the Pitch to win this game. BC will bring big-time game this Sat.

Cal rugby gets little fanfare, but, with this tough game on Sat this is a chance for Bear backers to show up and give support. The Cal 15s will need the help.

The BC game starts at1:00 pm
A second game with the Bears 2/3 string playing Santa Rosa JC at 2:45
Santa Rosa will hang in there.

The BC game will be the highlight game at Witter this year, unless the Fina'ls tournament gets played here

If you want to see hard-nosed competitors, Be there!! It's Big-Time Rugby Supersized!!

This is one big test!! I don't believe I've ever felt more confident about the Bears going into this game though. The Bears are big, fast, agile, and have been punishing in their tackling this year. Granted I've had more chances to see them this year than in the past (living in SoCal, I usually only get to come up to one or two matches, but this year has been great......UCla tourney, stanford, and Cal Poly.....and I HOPE UBC this weekend!), so my evaluation may be skewed by having more exposure to this years roster. But I really believe the Bears look like a well oiled machine, and I like their chances this Saturday! UBC will bring it! So....bring it on!!! It's gonna be fun Go Bears!!!

I'll give it a try. This is a challenge because unlike American football, we don't get to see film of the opponent. And I have no idea what the injury situation with UBC is. My GUESS is that the Bears won't win this one in the pack. I'm thinking UBC will have good size and strength in the forwards, and will be able to counter one of Cal's biggest advantages thus far. I like the way Cal is distributing ball, and I am impressed by the speed and agility of the Cal backs. So here's what I'm going to predict: The Bears will keep the ball inside early on to see how they stack up against the UBC forwards. If UBC proves to be equal to Cal's strength, (not including line-outs), Cal will try to get the ball outside and see if the Bears athleticism and speed is better than UBC's outside defense. UBC should move the ball well, but I'm just really jazzed about the ability of Cal's backs to tackle and attack when they have possession. Cal 24 UBC 16. (Don't bet on this Go Bears!!!!
