For the record, I lean towards the sunshine pumper side of things...and I am really hoping Zach proves some people wrong and graduates...what a waste if he doesn't. Come on Zach! You can do it!

I'm a Cal grad, no tutoring, and, if needed, no chance of a missed session.

He was here to play football with his talented brother. Period.

Better days are here

You make strong conclusions about someone you don't know.

Did you play D1 football at Cal? Practices, road trips? On top of your studies, did you have to know Tedford's massive playbook backwards and forwards, one that took other players, many not even QBs, years to learn? Maynard was not the only player who got tutoring sessions (most do) and was not the only player to miss a tutoring meeting--just the only one you know about because he was the starting QB.

The bottom line is that Maynard was smart enough to learn Tedford's playbook and through all of his time at Cal stayed academically eligible (i.e. passed his classes). He is apparently a registered student this semester. Unless you have some evidence other than your assumptions and prejudices there is no need to negatively speculate, much less make a negative assumption that you state as fact about a Cal student-athlete.

I'd get worked up about posts like OskiMD's, but he's proven himself such a despicable person so many times that I've tried to just ignore it. Good post, NYC.

Wow, "despicable" huh? Coming from a lawyer that doesn't really hurt too much, but thanks for your input.

And you don't have to try so hard, just put me on "ignore." I'm sure someone can help you out with that if you don't know how. But you probably knew that already, didn't you?

Or was there something about Powe that you think he has in common with Maynard that lead you to make that comparison?

First of all, I love Leon Powe. A truly inspirational guy oozing with so much character and class that even Tedford would be jealous. But he had something like a 1.9 GPA in HS before he raised it to a 3.1 (and at Oakland Tech that probably doesn't mean much). I don't remember if he was a full qualifier, but he was evidently a fairly marginal student, as Maynard was/is.

Nothing wrong with that, just pointing out that marginal students who have little interest in academics probably aren't going to get a degree or if they do, it's probably going to be with a major in fitness engineering or something similar.

It's funny how so many of you get so worked up about this, as if bachelor's degrees should just be handed out like at the average HS if you "did the work" and went to class. Some people actually still believe that getting a college degree should mean that you actually got a college education, especially at an elite (yes, I'm being serious) institution like Cal.

Enough of the ZM threads. and don't be mad at him. Be mad at JT. He stuck with him when ZM was clearly over his head. If Tedford started me, and I tried my hardest. who would you be pissed at??? ( although, I would have brought us to the RB ) :acclaim:

We'd rather just call you out when necessary, which is plenty often. I don't know if you're a troll or seriously like this, but you must be a blast to hang out with.

I didn't start this thread, and I'm not mad at Maynard. It's everyone else that's getting upset at the prediction that he will not end up with a Cal degree. I'm fairly ambivalent about him and his future, meaning I just don't really care one way or the other. But saying that he probably won't get his degree is not hate, it's a predication based on what is known about his academic career from HS to Buffalo to Cal. People may hope that he gets his degree, but I don't think many people are expecting him to.

But whatever, this horse has been beaten to a pulp. Let's just wait and see (and many of you can hope for it to happen) if he ever does pull that rabbit out of the hat someday...

you might want to remember that after taking care of his dying mother, leon slept in a car most nights, and instead of eating himself would spend the money on food for his younger siblings. i'd likely have less than a 1.9 myself.

They won't and they'll be reminded of that everytime they look up at the rafters in Haas.

The only time OskiMD really posts is when there is a thread about Tedford or Keenan/Maynard, so he uses that opportunity to bash them. remeber he was banned for a while for a while due to personal insults against Tedford.

Wonder who he is?

For Cal's purposes, a student who did not graduate can still join the alum association and be called alum as long as they earned a certain number of units.

This conversation was talked to death when they decided to retire Kidd's number. Many want the traditional definition of having to actually graduate to be called an alum, and U$C actually uses that definition, but not Cal and not many other schools use the traditional definition either.

Seriously, your posts are cancerous. And you'll be the first person to whine when Keenan doesn't say "Cal" during his televised NFL intros.

Beyond that it's obvious you've never played at any level. This allows you to be despicably judgmental.
