Is anyone video taping spring practice?

Just curious if anyone is taking video and putting it up. I wouldn't be concerned if you are a fan that this would give anything away to competition - practices are open and the new style is "everyone is going to know what we do, we are just going to do it really well" instead of designing new plans and schemes each week. Anyways, I'd love to see some video if anyone has it. Or maybe the team prohibits it, I don't know?

Another random question: does anyone know if Marin Catholic is a Tony Franklin System team? It has probably been discussed here before, but watching them on tape, it seems like they could be...interesting with another potential big recruit at QB for them next year...

Only video posted is at calbears.com along with daily posts.

The video is only a couple of minutes ... just a tidbit to whet the appetite.
Taking and posting videos reveals everything and nothing.

I don't think it'd be against the rules to do so, but I have neither enough hands or devices.

I wouldnt do so. Wouldnt want to give other teams the ability to see how our team practices.

This just sounds like a monumentally bad idea. If an opposing team wanted to gain an advantage they'd have to come all the way to Berkeley to so. Why make it easier for douchenoozles like Sark and Kiffin to merely watch our practices from the comfort of their offices over and over again?

It doesn't matter, nor does Dykes care. He's had his practices videotaped before (brophyfootball). If anything, he's expecting them to be.

But I guess he should be directly asked first. Moraga?

Talk to Sonny. He said the team belongs to the University and the community and has nothing to hide. Let them look ... maybe they'll have involuntary bowel movements watching. I'm sure that Pendergast and to$h will have defenses ready for the BearRaid :rollinglaugh:

Sonny isn't afraid to let anyone watch ... opponents will have game films once the season begins.
How did the super-secret practices work last season? :p

Yeah, I don't think they care, considering practices are already open. The statement seems to me to be: "we'll do what we do. There isn't much to it. But we'll do it better than you can hope to stop."

not only do they do not care, but they have tony franklin go out and conduct coaching clinics and teach others what they do as well.

If you're talking about Manny Wilkins, he plays for San Marin, not Marin Catholic. I don't know what system they play.

What's amazing is that Tony Franklin's side business charges $3,000 for access to their materials, seminars, and expert reviews for one year (then $1,600/yr after that)yet instead of hiding their practice regime, which is the heart of the system, the TFS twitter account published Cal's and Kentucky's Spring practice schedules and invited everyone out to see the TFS in action. Dykes has made it clear why: success is not scheme-based, it is execution-based. They have nothing to hide because they're not trying to fool anyone.

Greater openness means greater fan engagement. It feels like such a huge change from the previous program. I am predicting a fantastic turnout for the Spring Game. Last year the count was supposedly 8,000 fans. I predict a bigger turnout this year.

(And did y'all notice how pumped Kline was in the video interview after the first practice? The players are buying in, which means success can come quickly.)

Exactly, there are no secrets to this system, it is just good football and fundamentals. Dykes isn't gonna care if Sark or Kiffin know everything - they already will before game time.
And yes I know that San Marin has a good QB, I was talking about MCs new QB who is already drawing attention despite backing up Goff until now.

which its not lilke football hasnt been pretty much like that for a long time. think people didnt know what the old packers were going to run, 49ers either when they had the west coast offense. there was tape on them that stretched for more than a decade.

To hell with that...lets have a live video feed. Just set up camera and point it at the field...rotating as necessary.

With today's tech that's easily done... just have to depend on the AirBears wifi connection lol

OK, go ask the coaches if it's ok to start broadcasting the practices just to satisfy some overzealous football starved fans. Let's not assume it's ok.

Someone elsewhere posted a pic of a flier they give you when you enter practice. It explicitly states that non-credentialed attendees are not allowed to photograph or videotape the practice.

So glad to hear this.

(But slightly disappointed that 1) Friday's practice starts at 6:30 in the dark and that 2) you're only allowed to sit in certain areas. I guess that makes it easier to police that policy. Well, it's much better than the last time I went to a practice, in August 2007, when a big Samoan dude came to my seat and escorted me and several other Cal fans out. Maybe I'll check it out Friday or go next Wednesday.)

Bad idea to start filming and posting. I realize everyone here has a thirst for information, but filming practice goes beyond just learning plays and formations. A major part of scouting is simply seeing what certain players can do (or not do). Sure, open practices mean anyone can come in and observe but why spoon feed it to people with interests beyond being a Cal fan? There are plenty of other ways to spread excitement about the new regime.

It was a little hard to read that on my phone. But that's good to know can put to rest the fans' desire to tape practices.

That answers it, good find.

Yes, but we have BI reporters at practice who are credentialed and are allowed to shoot video and photos, but, if people think it will somehow compromise the team, then I guess I will just have to wait until I can go in person. Just thought some of the sights and sounds would be cool.

Thats awesome, I'll be looking forward to the credentialed videos. I think it in no way compromises the team.
