That hat is tied to the Cal Football Alumni group.
Troy Auzzene, Matt Grimes and others are responsible for it.
It has been around for a few years, only available at the Cal football alumni golf tournament in the fall at Tilden every year. Or you got it from one of those guys.
It's great that Sonny was given one and is wearing it, as he has obviously been told it's significance: it ties the older guys (70's 80's 90's etc) to the program. And, that is something many in that group felt that the Tedford regime didn't care enough about.

Good. Glad there is a sense of fraternity and tradition, even if I don't like the design.

I didn't like the hat, but I like the story. It's great Sonny is embracing the previous CAL football players who may have great influence in the legacy of the program and the recruiting grounds. Also, I'm sick of seeing sons of CAL alums going to other schools.

It's a nice hat. And if it isn't, the rest of you guys ain't lookin' so red hot in yours, either.

Not my favorite hat design, but it sure beats the hell outta our recent uniforms.

Yeah, I agree I'm glad not to see a white foundation on that hat. Also I like the shade of gold on that "C". That's a Cal gold....as it always should be. I've always thought the block "C" looks very strong and solid, and is a good image for Cal's athletic teams. The use of that block "C" on the Bears baseball team looks really great, as an example. The story of the design's origins is also encouraging. Though I don't particularly care for the extra design over the "C" itself, I totally like the story behind it, and the relationship that appears to be getting established between Coach Sonny and Cal's traditions.

I like the traditional C cap, or the Cal script, personally. The story behind the hat is interesting though.
