catching passes today, not throwing. If that sticks I'm glad KB is adapting and can help the team.

If true, "good on him." Beats "cutting and running."

I'm happy to hear that if he indeed is not a serious contender for the QB job. I've said before that I thought Boehm's athleticism and size would make him a potential candidate for WR or HBack/TE. The kid is big, strong, fast and one hell of an athlete. I'm rooting for him to be successful, and I think he possesses a skill set that makes him an intriguing prospect if he is indeed making the switch.

4.82 listed as his 40 time. I guess he is more of a possession receiver
Imagine the trick plays you could come up with.

He was primarily a running QB in HS and was very impressive as a runner at that level. Not only has decent speed for his size but he was also shifty and instinctive. Again I'm excited if this is true.

It didn't sound like he was the qb of the future so if he can see the field this way good on him

How big is Boehm? Another "inside" receiver, formerly TE?

sounds like a smart move all around. But it's interesting how many guys are eligible to convert to WR, a position of depth, and how few translate to S, a position of need.

6'3' 210 lbs out of high school...kind of a shame in a way as he was ranked as high as #7 for QB's in his years class...but if this helps him see the field, all the power and luck to him...

I was going to suggest one of the qbs try a position change. And if he is as athletic as stated he could be perfect for safety. Just need a few tenths off that 40...

Okay, I should probably clarify.

He took some time under center as a running QB, and Sonny did not confirm anything after practice - I stayed to listen to him talk about Boehm, so I can tell you that for sure.

Does he look serviceable and more likely to see the field there? I say yes.

FWIW, Hinder also caught some passes.

I think they were just filling in so we would have enough receivers for the drill.

Boehm did have one series at QB and did all the QB drills.

killjoy .... where's the room for wild speculation by posting facts. :p
Guys banged up, Dykes needed bodies to fill in.
ah hell, the truth is simple but too simple for the speculators.

I think most of us are rooting for Boehm to have a significant role in the offense. With Goff, Kline and Hinder as the 1,2 and 3 at QB (in whatever order) KB may be able to contribute as a hybrid QB,RB, inside receiver on short yardage/goal line situations. Yes, wild speculation but with a positive note.

Whatever - However, I think Boehm is a great candidate for holder on XPs & FGs.
His run/pass capabilities might be of use in the next 2 years.
He is a good athletic with a great attitude - he should be on the field.

I agree and I will include the two walk-ons who look like good, big athletes (one a former pro baseball player) as well--I'd love to see them change to a position of need (safety?) if they can fill in. I just don't think the fact that Hinder and Boehm filled in at receiver for one of the drills means anything (I'd be happy if it does mean something). I am pretty sure they are still both QBs at this point.

Whether it is feasible or not, I'm encouraged that we have a coach who is willing to consider ways to get athletes on the field. Might Boehm or Hinder be viable options as receivers? Probably a longshot at best but it isn't unheard of for guys recruited as QBs to recycle to another position. Eric Bjornson at UW, Kerry Meier at Kansas and Anquan Boldin at FSU are some who come to mind. HS QBs are often the best athletes on their teams and can easily put those skills to use at another position.

I thought of him (even conjured up the TV commercial where he couldn't get into the party) but his last name was lost in the dim recesses of my geriatric memory. Also, didn't Scott Frost switch from QB to DB?

Steve Levy switched to full back at Cal. Then, when Longshore broke his ankle against Sac State in the first game Ayoob took over as the number one QB and Levy switched back to QB as back up. Of course, Levy replaced Ayoob for the last 2 games, winning the Big Game and then the Las Vegas Bowl. Just saying that you don't need to look far to find an example of a QB position switch to another skill position.

Who ranked him #7?
Scout ranked him the #17 QB. Assuming a QB stays on average 4 years in college, that's nearly 70 QBs ranked at or above #17 in college football at any given year.
Rival gave him a 5.7 (3-star).

Yahoo, which usually more accurate than Scout for the most part....

Let's look at that in more detail.

Yahoo has 2 categories for QBs: pro-style and dual threat. They ranked him #7 in pro-style.
Clicking all of their 2011 pro-style QB rankings, the top 5 were 4-stars. Searching for dual threat QB rankings in that year, there were 11 4-stars.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2648

So, there were 11 4-star dual threats QBs, plus another 6 pro-style QBs ranked ahead of Boehm, which made him #18 overall ranked QB by the highest possible estimation (assuming that his 3-star is higher than all dual-threat 3-stars).

He was the #7 "Pro-style QB."

They have separate rankings for "Pro Style Quarterback" and "Duel Threat QB" of which 23 had his ranking (3 star 5.7 rating) or better in 2011, including Johnny Manziel and Marcus Mariota (both 3 star 5.7 ratings like Boehm).

Boehm also should be one of the 'up' guys on the punt team. I will be sorely disappointed if we don't fake some kicks this year and Boehm would be the perfect guy to run the fakes. I want to see some daring and I want to see a team play with confidence and not cluster-****-up the only two fake punts they try in a decade and then have the coach say they were mistakenly run.

I understand all that...even know they have separate categories for the 2 different styles....when Boehm was recruited, JT was still a pro style guy IMO even though he was mixing in a lot of different styles altogether.....I only said he was ranked #7 and considering there are over 120 Div 1 teams, that still is a decent ranking.....#17 is not bad considering the number of good teams around the country....

Understand that calumnus......know the 2 categories...I originally said it was a shame cause he ranked as high as #7...should have included "pro style" but he was high enough to play QB somewhere if that was his dream. I also went on to say I wish him all the power and luck to play another position if he can see the field. That sounds reasonable to me. especially considering last year we played a guy who wasn't even ranked anywhere.
