Several former Cal players had kids while at Cal or before, like Marvin Jones and Tyson Alualu. Depends on the player. At least give him props for having some priorities if not the execution so far. Any way, close to home sounds like UA or ASU.

The 2012 Notre Dame recruiting class looks to be a mess. They originally signed 17 players. They are now down to 13 with one of those being a long snapper.

5* QB Gunner Keil. Gone
5* CB Tee Shepard. Gone
4* CB Davonte' Neal. Gone
3* WR Justin Ferguson. Gone

Also, they had two members of the class of 2011 transfer.

5* DE Aaron Lynch. Gone

South Bend isn't so bad. Especially if you are trying to raise a family on a scholarship. You can get a really great house or apartment on your stipendiary or scholarship money. Good luck doing that in Berkeley or Westwood.

You can't talk about Cal's great academics on one hand and then dismiss ND completely on the other-it is a great academic school.

ND is hardly the only school in a small town atmosphere. If you are playing football and working out, and then trying to hold your own academically at a challenging school, I don't think the South Bend aspect is going to be that big of a deal for 4 or 5 years. Obviously it being a Catholic institution (and everything that goes with that) isn't everyone's cup of tea.

But the "who wants to" is answered by the fact that ND is doing waaay too well in recruiting the west.
