Columbia apparently has a 'fake' Wikipedia which includes Stanford in it. Only Cal related because of thte picture attached to the page on the far right.
According to a footnote, furd was modeled after Cornell (Big Red), perhaps leading to the red/white colors matching Cornell. Cornell's mascot is the Bear.
But Cal already had the Bear mascot so, using the confounded "logic" for which furd is famous, furd took the logical alternative and called themselves ... the Indians. Many, many decades passed before furd again, so jealous and envious of Harvard, changed the mascot to ... Cardinal ... because Harvard's mascot is Crimson.
Laughing at furd is so easy. If in need of a laugh, do something that will invoke hilarity: ask a furdie to do actual work. Enjoy the sensation as the furdie reacts, perhaps approaching a seizure, at even the mention of that dreaded word: "work".
To laugh at furd, watch this great clip of The Play (voice of Starkey) which includes the furd FG, then The Play, then an interview with Kapp and finally (@ 6:45) :acclaim: ... a brief statement by Johnnie (almost Heisman) Elway who declares, displaying the "wisdom" of a furd "education":
"The touchdown shouldn't have been allowed because ... .... <drum roll, trumpets> ... the band was on the field." :axe

The Play clip just never gets old. I could probably recite it backward at this point, but I still love hearing Starky's call. Don't think I'd seen that Elway clip before. The sour grapes make it all the sweeter.
