It's hysterical to me that we're all happy for what the new uniforms are NOT rather than for what they are....

that's what Maryland and Oregon can do for you... you're just worried you're going to look stupid. you're happy when you aren't and forget for a moment that Cal Marketing still totally sucks

Good. Glad to hear your experience went well. Mine went very well ... And I never wear red.

Sadly, this is the state of modern uniform design.

That's cool, I prefer blue at the end of the day but have no problem if that other color makes an occasional appearance.

Lack of team discipline. How come our captains allowed one of our players to attend an official team meeting and sit right in front of the camera wearing a red shirt? I don't own a red shirt. I would never wear a red shirt. If someone gave me a red shirt as a birthday present I wouldn't accept it. I joined a basketball league in Switzerland this year as a ringer after the previous team captain went down with a broken ankle. The team color was red. I refused to wear it -- I wore a blue shirt instead. We started every single game with a technical foul for uniform violation.

And I am not alone in this -- plenty of alumni feel the same way.

So how is a Cal football player allowed to waltz into an official team meeting wearing a red shirt?

I had to go to idiotic company retreats back in the day when I was under the thumb of The Man, ne: employed, and they wanted me to wear a red company logo golf shirt. Flock red, and FLOCK GOLF!

The actual uniforms are secondary. This seems mostly about slapping the new logo on T-shirts and other merchandise.

Can't believe they kept the banana peel.

I think this really depends on what Sonny and the team decide to do with it. They are just showing all of the available jerseys and pants: blue, gold, white, grey. The all-gold doesn't have to be worn, and IIRC Sonny has already indicated that he doesn't like it and prefers to have the team wear blue-over-gold. So we will see what happens on the field.

Right, that part is fine. Don't ever do it on gameday, but I left the rivalry there.

I think it is safe to assume that most people on this board take the rivalry a bit more seriously than you do. I don't wear red. Ever. And I certainly wouldn't wear red to an official Cal activity (like a football team meeting). The captains and coaches should have been all over this. Can you imagine what Joe Kapp would have done if one of his players walked into a team meeting wearing stanfurd red?

True. Better get new Team Captains that can honor and enforce that dress code.

Seriously? I can care less what they wear to team meetings, as long as they win on the field and/or in the classroom.

Indeed Stanfurd is the epoch of all that is evil in the world and should be feared and hated at all times. The tribalism of the college rivalry, like the internet, is serious business like that.

A little "fun" type of tradition (don't wear red) won't hurt the Cal Players....especially when they have a Fanbase (allegedly) that aspires to be taken as serious as other Football Programs around the Nation, programs like the Michigan Wolverines:

"We're not wearing red, for obvious reasons, this is Michigan. Orange is the only other color that stands out." - Devin Gardner, Michigan QB

Michigan coach Brady Hoke won't wear the color red - ESPN Article

Now that sounds like a real Football Program.
