Here's my five word description: Nice refresh except bear logo.
Beyond that, I doubt the new Bear logo will last. The jagged edge stuff is already passe. (look at the Memphis Grizzly logo, as someone mentioned.)
The reason why I don't think it will endure is not only the jagged edge design but it's contrary to the other Cal logos and "branded" ID like Oski. Most Cal stuff that has endured have classic lines or a traditional feel like the Oski logo.
Example: script Cal fits with Oski, the Campanelli, etc., block C as well. The new jagged Bear doesn't fit with anything except maybe the matte helmet...and you'd still be hard pressed to ID what it's suppose to be.
Also besides burying the logo on the football unis in black, where can you put that thing and make it look okay? Any unis at all? I don't see it. Baseball, WBB, rugby? Nada, nil, no.
The little I heard in the presentation stated wanting a more aggressive feel, etc. and they went for it regardless. Aggressive jagged lines just don't make everything cool and aggressive. Nothing wrong with aggressive but the logo lacks clarity or ease of ID. Also the nature of the jagged lines puts a date stamp on it.
If I were to submit a design critique it would be the unis are a nice update but the bear logo missed. The objective should have been aggressive feel but classic lines or compatibility with existing branding.
Okay Nike, you owe me $100,000 for that critique. Pay up you bastards.
