Just reading about it in the Latimes sports section...

I watched part of that game 2 years ago, but don't remember that play. Was it scary? He was out for a couple of minutes apparently.

No offense to UCLA's Dietrich Riley and best wishes on his recovery, but Isi Sofele could really lay the lumber as a RB at times. Pound-for-pound, he was a very tough runner who gave it his all for Cal Football. Given our lackluster win-loss records lately, he was inspirational at times.

Isi was one of the toughest guys on the team. That's why Gould loved him despite his physical limitations. He was a helluva special teams player his true frosh year. Probably could've been all conference as a special teamer if he just did that. Kinda like Jahvid in that sense.

The odd thing about Sofele was that he received justified criticism for being too easy to bring down... his freshman year, his sophomore year and INTO his junior year, but about 1/3 of the way into that season he suddenly became a monster.

Sure, Tedford should have found a way to get BB more carries last season, but folks who criticized the opportunities that Sofele was getting seemed to forget what he did over the second half of the 2011 season.

I don't recall the hit on the top of my head, but the article pointed out that Riley came in with the crown of the helmet first which is probably what caused the injury more than Sofele hitting him. Not to take anything from Sofele who was tough as nails for his size.
