Then you're as fucking dumb as the OP. "Another in the lineage of $C QBs proving to be mediocre in the NFL."

Do you even know that the draft hasn't taken place yet, that he hasn't proven anything in the NFL one way or the other? As if a 2nd or 3rd round pick is "proof" of mediocrity.

Go blow yourself you little prick. No one is saying his ability to achieve. His dumbass move was staying another year and dropping out of the first round. Learn to read douche bag. And next time, don't elevate things by getting personal punkass.

Normally when you go on another team's bored, you show a little respect. This is especially true when no one has attacked or disrespected you. I know it's fun to go on another team's bored and pretend like you're the expert and everyone who disagrees with you is "absurd," but no one here is impressed with you. Look, I can quote too!

ducktilldeath;842116161 said:

lol, like being drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round is some disaster. What an absurd post.

stanfurdbites;842116262 said:

there is no absurdity to the post ... he was a top 5 pick last year if he came out and worth tens of millions of dollars immediately. now that he has dropped to 2nd or 3rd round, he needs to earn his tens of millions of dollars before he gets it.

i root for the kid but i root against the hyped machine garbage that is $UC

im not too sure why duck likes the cal board so much, he posts pretty often for an outsider and for us not being a main rival. id imagine though that husky boards would find him intolerable though. i know duck fans are easily excited but lets try to bring this down a notch.

It looks like Mike Silver's read on Barkley's shaky draft chances had some merit after all. End of 3rd round and no mention yet of Barkley. Has any other college QB's draft position dropped so much in one year?

Dude cost himself serious dough returning for his senior degree. What kind of salary does a 4th rd rookie make? League minimum?

A few future scenario for him: I think #3.

1. Get picked low, work his may up the depth chart and prove his talent after a few years like A. Rodgers. And then get paid like A. Rodgers did. Dates questionably hot girls with tramp stamps, just like A Rodgers.

2. Get picked low, earn decent salary, become a life-time back up, never to see the field. But in the end, manage to parlay a nice career net earning, just like Kyle Boller. Marries a ultra-conservative hot blonde.

3. Get picked low, struggle to even make the squad. Can't recover, has a mental breakdown. Quits team to start a NFL therapy clinic for "SC QB alums who sucks in the NFL". Develops clinic to a successful business, earning him a nice career and securing a nice financial future. Steals Sanchez's girl during a therapy session.

4. Get picked low, struggle for a few years. Leaves the league without much fanfare. Lives in Montana in small town with Ranting Sorority girl.

I think the scouts would have evaluated Barkely similarly after his junior season and his pro days. Just because he was "projected" to be a top pick by draft "experts" doesn't mean he would have been when all was said and done.

i stand corrected on barkley. coming out late cost him big time. at this point he may not even make a team

You make it seem like drafting a QB is a crap shoot. If anything, the one position the NFL most accurately drafts for is the QB position. It does matter where you are drafted.

84% of all of the current starting QBs in the NFL were drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds...including 69% were drafted in the 1st round. Here is the distribution:

1st round: 22 players
2nd round: 5 players
3rd round: 2 players (Russell Wilson, Matt Schaub)
4th round: 0 players
5th round: 0 players
6th round: 1 player (Tom Brady)
7th round: 1 player (Matt Flynn)
Undrafted: 1 player (Tony Romo)

In other words, the median QB is a first rounder. There is no other position that can make that claim.

If Barkley drops to the 3rd round, it doesn't mean he won't have a successful NFL career, but his odds drop significantly.

Could also have something to do with salaries those 1st rounders make.

Just like KA, his performance was impacted by injury, and his stock dropped. Since QBs, even back-ups, get paid bigger bucks, his stock falls more.

ESPN analyst said his contract will probably be a 4 year contract worth about $2M with a $500K signing bonus. Nothing even close to what he would have made if he came out last year. For guys like that, it's all about the second contract, if he can perform under the first.

Most QB's drafted won't perform. So if you can get into the first round, do it. The chances are they won't be a second contract.

$C's OL also sucked something fierce. You can be Aaron Rodgers but if you're behind a poor OL, your play will suffer.

It's going to be real interesting to see how Barkley does in Chip Kelly's offense.

Still, I'll just say, the guy should have left last season. Every Cal player in the same situation has left early. I guess they don't teach those $C types about cost/risk and timing.

Only by USC standards. Both of their primary RB's averaged over 5 ypc, and only 24 teams gave up fewer sacks. They gave up the fewest sacks in the PAC-12.

Sacks allowed: http://www.cfbstats.com/2012/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category20/sort01.html

From $C starter to 4th round pick? That's gotta be a pay cut for him, right?

Respect the guy mucho for coming back. He will be the Eagle's QB in a few year. He'll make all the money he needs...

That is the most interesting to me, since Kelly obviously was very familiar with Barkley.

Chip is being loved by the Philly media right now, because he is perceived as being more open than Andy Reid especially regarding draft decisions, etc. But he is pretty evasive on what is "Chip Kelly's offense." He insists that the offense will revolve around the personnel, so that makes the Barkley pick even more interesting.
Chip and the Eagles claim that Barkley was the highest player on their board at that point "by far."
