CBS sports mock draft, one of the analyst has him at 24 to the colts, most other mock drafts have him as a second rounder. Good luck to Brian. I did a quick google search and he's seems to be moving up the draft boards quick.

Mack and Schwartz doing well in Cleveland. Maybe scouts are taking note of good returns from Cal O-linemen (opposite of USC QBs).

Fixed: Schwartz, not MSG.

Did you mean to say Mitchell Schwartz?

I think 1st round is a bit high for Schwenke, but I do expect him to go higher than some people think he might. I've seen some analysts project him as one of the top centers in the draft, and the very least, a player who can compete for starting guard spot right away.

Schwenke excelled at the NFL combine and is not a surprise that teams are aware of his talents. He only played his senior year at center, but it shows his versatility on the OL. A team will jump up and grab him early.

MSG won't be drafted, but probably get a chance to try out.

BWF, thanks for the correction.

Pro Football Focus placed Schwartz on their all-rookie list for 2012: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/01/15/2012-pff-all-rookie-team/

Tackles: Matt Kalil, MIN (LT) (+15.9) and Mitchell Schwartz, CLV (RT) (+16.1)

It's uncanny how similar the numbers look for Kalil and Schwartz. Both made the team on the strength of top-notch pass blocking, as Kalil graded at +15.6 and Schwartz at +15.1, while both have room to improve as run blockers (Kalil -2.4, Schwartz -2.9). They finished among the Top 22 tackles in the league, making for an easy selection as the bookend tackles on the All-Rookie Team.

His experience as a multi-year starter is a plus. He'll only get better as a center the more he works at it. I understand he really stood out in the practices leading up to the Senior Bowl.

Not too many centers go in the first round, but he is a solid 2nd round pick - recent Cal OL have a pretty good track record with success in the NFL - Brian will be another.

Schwneke is legit. It was pretty clear that he was going to be a pretty good player his true frosh year. He would've gotten a lot more pub had the rest of our OLine hadn't stunk so much. But the nfl always finds talent...

No one ever doubted that Schwenke individually was good. It was the line as a whole.

Whatever happened to MSG? I thought his presence was why we beat furd in 2009.

MSG was a great guard, but only so-so tackle.

His injuries last year really dropped him off of everyone's screen. He was a pre-season all PAC-12, but just never got going at all. By the time he was healthy, the season was in free fall. He was projected as a guard for the NFL (and should have been a guard with Cal all along I think).

MSG was always touted, but short on results. Yes, concussions were an early issue, but there was more. He was the invisible man his last two years. IMO...

I hope he can find himself in his upcoming NFL tryout.

Injuries at OT and other than Schwenke, a thinness at C and and OG.

OL as a unit is only as good as its weakest link, and unfortunately for us, there have been problems at multiple OL positions the past few years.

you'd think that at times with having 2 first round caliber lineman out there, youd be able to piece something together

Yeah.....we know where the weakest link started.....

Coach M - who had no results in improving the OL that had a majority of the players he recruited previously.

Not quite... There were a lot of injuries that moved kids around - Galas not being able to shotgun snap hurt too. Last year was very much a patchwork effort.

IMHO-If Schwenke moves up it is because of his potential at OG. There are many more teams that have a need at guard and there really aren't many guards that rated as high as Schwenke is overall. I could see him inching into RD #2 as an OG.

If he goes as a C, he is rated as the 3rd or 4th center behind Jones and Frederick. But Frederick may also go early as a guard. I have Frederick and Jones going late in the 2nd round and Schwenke going late in the 3rd., but if they are all moving up, then you can subtract a round from each. So the earliest I see Schwenke going is late in round #2 to Dallas or Denver. I don't see any centers going to the Colts at all and I suspect they grab a higher rated guard in round #1, either Cooper or Warford.

CBS has neglected to include many players on their big board and hence it skews the projections.

I remember MSG had a concussion from getting out or into bed, hitting his head on the nightstand.
