Yep....Berkeley Community Theater, on campus of BHS. It's a GREAT venue.....

That's what I think it was too. Thing is, when I googled it the pictures make it seem much, much bigger than I remember. In my memory there was no mezzanine level, but maybe it's just that it was above me so I didn't notice it. Wikipedia says: "The theater building also holds the Florence Schwimley Little Theater, a smaller theater that is often used for Berkeley High School music and theater performances." Maybe that's where this show was done for some reason? My recollection is that I was in the very last row but was not much more than 10 yards from BB & Lucille, at most. (Although these things do tend to get enhanced with age I suppose.) Also I distinctly remember a wall of windows right behind me, like I was in a large school classroom.

#1 - The Offspring at The Edge in Palo Alto, 1994 (in support of Smash). Place only fits 650. Unbelievable scene for a crazy high energy concert. Face To Face opened.

#2 - U2 - 1st leg of Joshua Tree Tour, at the Cow Palace. With Lone Justice. Not a big fan now, but what an amazing concert! Also caught the second leg with The Pretenders, but it was at Oakland Coliseum.

#3 - Oingo Boingo with X at The Greek. 3+ hours. I was REALLY high.

#4 - Black Keys at The Fox Theater in Oakland, 2009. Venue just re-opened a couple months prior. Great venue, great live act.

#5 - White Stripes at The Greek, 2005. Another just fabulous live performer. Dude can play a guitar!

BB King at some tiny little auditorium in downtown Berkeley. Don't remember the name, might've even been BHS gym? Many years ago when I was in HS. Unreal. So small and intimate and informal. Just sat in awe and soaked it all in. One of my treasured memories, and I'm not really a concert guy (but then again this was not really a concert per se, that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much).

LOL!!!!
Berkeley Community Theater......BHS campus.
He played there a number of times.

Now if you want to talk small.....I saw him in some tiny tiny gym in Santa Cruz late 80s I think, sat on a wooden picnic bench about 20 feet away.
This place had no built in seating.....picnic benches and folding chairs.
If there was 200 people I'd be surprised.

LOL!!!!!

The Genentech party? It was amazing. Nobody knew who was coming. Hard to believe the Foo fighters were the intro band. They were great,as usual. Really high energy. Really seem to have a good time and ended up doing another company party last year. Bob Dylan had a great band. I loved the music. I have seen him before. His energy level is pretty low nowadays and the sound on him wasn't great. The Black Eyed Peas were at their peak. The energy level was awesome. Just a great party band, even though I'm not a big fan of their recent stuff. The Eagles sounded amazing. They had been touring just before as part of their reunion tour and also did some of their individual hits. I was there with my wife and older son who was about 14. He still talks about how great this concert was. We worked our way to the front of the stage so we were only a few feet from Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh.

Also, had forgotten that SRV played with BB King. He broke a couple of strings on "Crossfire" in the middle of the set and changed the key in a way that blew me away.

I got a good one for ya...besides the fact you were jealous of me seeing Pink Floyd at the Cow Palace in 1975, (see page 1), I was in a small club in San Diego with my Hungarian Jew princess at the time (mid 80s I think) and in comes Phil Collins and he actually sang a song on stage....of course he was wasted as I don't think his feet touched the ground for several minutes....no, he didn't do the drum thing though. I also met Nancy Sinatra at the Calgary Stampede way back when....but I don't brag much on that one.

She loved BB King, the Motels, Huey Lewis and the News.

Kind of surprised no one mentioned the Bob Dylan concert at Berkeley Community Theater in 1964.

He went off on a harmonica solo in the middle of Don't Think Twice that was the best of that kind I've ever heard.

Surpirse appearance by Joan Baez wearing a skirt and (low) heels and makeup. Not too many days after, she sang on the steps of Sproul while Mario Savio was leading the FSM sit-in.

Most memorable (maybe not the best):I saw Fleetwood Mac at Berkeley Community Theater aprox. 1977...first row as a bunch of us had waited out over-night to get tickets. Stevie Nicks made a lot of eye contact with my roommate.
Senior year of HS ('75)friends talked me into going to see Alice Cooper at the Forum...turned out to be an incredible show-Welcome to my Nightmare Tour.
Seeing Bruce for The Rising Tour...that was great. Just saw Neil Diamond-shocked at how good he sounded!

Big Brother with Janice, Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. Lotta smoke. Good Gawd, the ladies.

:newnana:

I was likely there. Memory from the 60s is naturally vague, but I don't remember the three big hitters playing the Filmore together that often 67-68 and I did see that lineup at the Filmore at least once.
Another good one I saw was The New Riders Of The Purple Sage, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Quicksilver Messenger Service, at Winterland Oct 4, 1970. Easy to remember this date - it was the night Janis died.
But I think my seminal musical 60s experience was The Vietnam Day Committee "Peace Trip: Rock and Roll Dance Benefit" on March 25, 1966, in our very own Harmon Gym, featuring early Dead, and The Paul Butterfield Blues band. I bought the Butterfield album the very next morning.

I'm embarrassed to say it, but Erasure circa 1995 or so at the Wiltern Theatre. I had first row balcony, and it was just a great show with great acoustics at the Wiltern.

I did go to the Amnesty International Show at the Coliseum in 1988, but I was mostly going there for Sting and he did not show up (was having contract issues). Did get to see Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez, etc. But where we were standing, it was hard to really engage and get into it.

Blur was also great at the Hollywood Palladium -- such an intimate venue. Opening for them was Smash Mouth.

Rush at the Universal Amphitheatre about 5 years ago was amazing. Just amazing. 3 hours straight.

Best concert here in Hawaii was The Police. Saw them 3 years ago. They still had it. 2nd was The Cure I saw last year. Good show as well.

Tough to narrow it down. Granted I'm jelly of some of you older folks as you got to see Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd etc, but here goes:

1991 Jawbreaker, Engine Kid, Beekeeper, Moist, and the F*** Boyz at the Gilman 5 for $5 - pretty crazy show for my first show. My friends and I always used to pick up "The List" when we went to Berkeley mostly to laugh at some of the band names.
10/15/93 Rage Against the Machine, Quicksilver, The Stanford Prison Experiment Cafe Iguanas Tijuana Mexico
12/31/93 Nirvana, Butthole Surfers Oakland Coliseum
10/28/94 Weezer in the Price Center Ballroom (UCSD)
12/8/94 First Phish show for me at Speckles Theatre (San Diego) a beautiful 1500 person venue
4/22/95 No Doubt Price Center Plaza (UCSD) Gwen Stefani was an immense presence back then even though I wasn't completely enthralled with the music
May 1995 - 311 at the Sun God Festival (UCSD)
5/19/95 - 5/21/15 Grateful Dead at Sam Boyd silver Bowl (Las Vegas)
6/15/96 - 6/16/96 Tibertan Freedom Concert in GG Park - Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, Tribe Called Quest, Pavement, Biz Markie, John Lee Hooker, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage against the Machine, Sonic Youth, Beck, Foo fighters, Bjork, De La soul, Fugees, and No Doubt ridiculous line up for a super concert
10/12/96 Beck at the Ventura Theatre
12/6/96 Phish at the Aladdin in Vegas
10/26/01 Oysterhead at the Greek Theatre - Oysterhead was a novelty group but fun to See Trey Anastasio of Phish play with Les Claypool (Primus) and Stuart Copeland (Police).
9/6/02 - Coldplay at the Greek Theatre - Didn't know who they were and a friend of mine bought me a free ticket.

Sure I'm missing a few but these seem to stick out.

Country Joe and the Fish played a party at Oxford Hall in the middle 60s when it was still a Co-op. I met a girl and left early, heading for my place at Cloyne. The girl lasted five years - I still have Country Joe vinyl; I call it a toss-up.

I think this song from the '67 Monterey Pop Festival is the perfect example of Psychedelic Rock. The lead guitar player, Barry Melton, is a California lawyer. Below the video I have linked his State Bar profile. Look at his email address. How cool is that?
