Christine (yes, Christine not Christian) Michael of Texas A&M by Seattle in the 2nd round. He is 5-11, 220 lbs, and gained only 417 yards running in 2012 and 8 receptions. He is very inconsistent and doesn't run well between the tackles. He will be playing behind Marshawn Lynch (arguably the best and most durable RB in the NFL) and Robert Turbin (a dynamite 2nd year runner and excellent receiver out of the backfield). I doubt that he would have been drafted at all and most likely would have been a longshot free agent. After an excellent off-season picking up established players from other teams, the Hawks are really blowing the draft. Too bad they didn't draft Keenan Allen, who could have been another dynamite weapon along with ML on a Superbowl contending team.

Gil Brant tweeted during the NFL Combine, "Texas A&M RB Christine Michael was a rockstar @ #NFLCombine, a top performer in 5 events. The bad: He overslept and missed 2 team interviews."

Risk/ reward? All the commentators mentioned his foibles, mostly off field issues. For years the Raiders made a living with these kind of athletes. The fact he was picked this early suggests the Seahawks weren't the only team intrigued by his exceptional athleticism.

He was a starter until Kevin Sumlin took over and benched him for bad attitude.

It suggests nothing of the sort.

No way do you take this guy with your 1st pick. But, for the record, Seattle recovered and had a good draft overall. See my grades in regular draft thread.

An argument can be made that the Raiders #1 pick is the strangest pick. But I like it.

Unusual career. Big 12 Freshman of the Year on many all conference team rankings that season. Eye opening talent.

Started out his soph year well but injuries ( broken leg and ACL ) ended both that season and the next. He was never much into blocking which is what I suspect got him into doghouse.

Not surprised he was drafted but never dreamed he would go this high.

He was more of a 4th round guy.

No DJ Hayden wasn't strange at all. He is the best cover corner in the draft. If he never got hurt he was a top 3 pick in this draft. He is crazy good.

In nine games they only threw at DJ 45 times (not much because of tight coverage) despite covering the top WR
Of those 45 passes they only completed 11 against him
Of those 45 passes he picked 4 balls
Of those 4 balls he took 2 back for TDs
So for every 2.75 completions against him he picked the ball
So for every 5.5 completions against him he scored a TD

Also think about this also. In nine games he had 61 tackles. If he tackled his 11 completions (because none were TDs against him) that means he made 50 tackles in 9 games against RBs or other players responsibilities.

Fast, physical, best hips, ball hawk, etc. As I said if he didn't almost die he was the 3rd best player in the draft. He was cleared by all 32 teams doctors and was flying up draft boards because of it. He was a lock first rounder.

I should have said "some people have made the argument" because I agree with you. I think they could have gotten him in rd#2 however. It's a miracle he's alive. But now the risk is over.

Funny, immediately after reading this post I was browsing on espn and came across a video on DJ and what happened to him... pretty powerful, no much of a raiders fan, but definitely rooting for him

C. Michael will be a very good player for Seattle. Will battle Turbin to be the backup to Lynch and replace him in a couple of years.
