Not sure actually. It was tweeted out by CollegeFootballScoop. Don't know if they use their own ratings.

Amazing how the SEC had 2X the amount of players drafted than the second most (ACC).

For all the stuff we say about how the SEC is overrated, they do have a ton of talent.

Would be great to now see what percentage of College football players were 5 stars, 4 stars, etc. Otherwise the above listed info isn't the most helpful. Anyone have any additional info?

This is what I could find quickly.

Through the first three rounds (2009 Recruiting numbers/ 2013 Draft picks rounds 1-3)

Ranking # Ranked Draft Picks % of Total
5 Stars 35 11 31.4%
4 Stars 400 31 7.8%
3 Stars 1195 32 2.7%
2 Stars 2195 14 0.6%
Not Rated. 9

Sorry this graph doesn't transfer onto here very well

It helps to get paid and have 4 years of pro ball experience already under your belt. :p

In certain part of the country folks learn to hold onto the football, but keep fumbling (losing) their school books. Strange how that is.

If you look up the definition of afterthought in the dictionary you get this...
"A college degree for athletes in the SEC."

On one of the College game day telecasts, they interviewed a player about his draft status, I believe it was an Auburn guy, he said he was going to graduate as well, and the interviewer asked what his major was. The confused look on the guys face was priceless. 4 years at an SEC school and did not even comprehend what a major even meant. My 16 year old and all his friends are already discussing what they will major in.

Wow- that is really informative. Thanks for posting. This clearly shows that star rankings are a pretty good indicator in general of an NFL future (or at least the actual Draft).

According to the data, a 5 star player is 4 times more likely to make it to the NFL than a 4 star player, who in turn is 3 times more likely to make it to the NFL than a 3 star, who in turn is 4 times more likely to make it to the NFL than a 2 star.

So for all of our griping about rankings and stars and their suspect nature, this data shows that rating services are pretty good at what they do (yes, there will always be misses and mistakes, but the point is that they are a good guide).

But but but, Alex Mack was a two star, so we should go after two stars or make ourselves feel better by saying our two stars are all underrated or under the radar guys, or Fetters sucks!

Although I do believe star ratings are a pretty good predictor of future NFL players, I'm not so sure about the accuracy of this particular stat. Where do Bryce Brown, Reuben Randle, Trent Richardson, Vontaze Burfict, etc. fit into this? They were drafted last year. Also, what about all the 2009 guys who redshirted and are still in school? Deandre Coleman for example - he was a 4 star who will be drafted next year.

These stats don't reflect making the NFL, only making first three rounds. Many players in the later rounds have successful NFL careers, just as many early rounders are disasters.

I wonder how drafting compared to stars of only Cal commits. Is it above or below the average?

I am certain players selected in the first 3 rounds have higher chance of succeeding in the NFL than players in round 4 - 7 and beyond.

The NFL teams know that if you played for an SEC team you have way more time on the field, practice field and in the gym. You are not required to waste any precious training time in the classroom.

Playing time after the first couple of years, meaning you're good enough to stick in the league.
Earning the second contract.

A good and important qualification, because, for those first few years, a top pick is likely to stay on the roster just to justify the fact that he was a top pick (see Jamarcus Russell, but this could apply to a 1st 2nd or even 3rd rounder).
