The more I see the Cal font around campus to more I dislike it

Classic Cal C font gone ... replaced by generic, awkward Nike font foolishness.
Nice going, Sandy.

Anyone know if the block C on the baseball hats are going to change?

What Nike changed the university font? Or just for unis?

Either way that's BS.

Ls are Ls, Us are Us, Ss are clearly different, and it's not like there was an actual whole font to go with the Block C.

complaining that our font looks like LSU's, and pining about a block C that follows a very generic font template doesn't really make sense.

you take the money, you make sacrifices and changes. Its 2013 marketing. My perception from afar: without Nike, I think Cal is in a more negative place.

:hatters

Whether or not you like Nike or not, they do make our program more attractive. Besides, we couldve had it worse with Adidas or Underarmor.

If Cal had a font then it was whatever was used on the (now previous) basketball uniforms:

But I don't think this has really been used anywhere else, so it's a stretch to call it any kind of official Cal Athletics font. Personally, I like the font on those jerseys better than the new one, but not enough to make a stink about it.

Few complaining seem to contemplate the state of Cal Athletics if we DIDN'T get a lot of value from Nike [or insert the evil institution du jour] - or how to replace those dollars.

I'm sure if those who are really upset about the changes went to Sandy and said, "hey, we'll pay whatever Nike is worth plus a dollar in perpetuity"...

To quote Hyman Roth (no, not Joe's grandfather), "This is the business we have chosen".

Major college athletics sold out to corporations years ago. We watch more games on TV as a result on various days of the week. We are now victims to the 4 hour game as a result too.

I'm not particularly fond of the font, especially the nine that looks like a q. Sandy stated that she wanted a uniformity throughout Cal athletics yet a nine and a six should be upside down versions of each other. For some strange reason, this is not the case with this font. If we turn the six upside down then we would have decent looking numerals. The nine just looks silly. Can you envision Jared Goff next year with a q on his back? I would prefer that we use the same numerals that we used last year on our football uniforms but must admit that the new unis are an upgrade from the previous two versions.

Welllllll, I agree. But creating an entire font that is not very unique and not good looking is kind of something that you work with people on.

Signing with Nike is not a "Nike way or the highway" thing. They are just as interested in being successful as we are. We can also keep Nike as a partner and make the current image BETTER. It is possible. It is also possible that we can be better than we were, and become better than we are.

Are you two serious?

1. Cal is still public, and still OUR (Californian's) school, not Nike's. Nike is a contractor. I get to criticize a FONT on a jersey regardless of how much money I get, because I am stakeholder in the institution.
2. Nike, despite giving money to Cal, does not diminish all other stakeholders to the point that we are not permitted to criticize how the institution is run or presented.
2. Just as the "unless you provide more money than the (BadGuyLobby) Lobby you should keep your opinion to yourself" opinion in other public institutions is ridiculous, here it is ridiculous.

I am surprised that a soft jab at the font-type caused two people just flop over so easily.

I had no problem with your comment/critique of the font...my response was more to those who were MF'ing Nike or close to it, and bashing Sandy as if she made a deal with the devil...

My solution to this problem is simple: Cal should just design and make their own jerseys.
