I watched that game and man, worst 3rd period meltdown in a playoff game... Toronto lead 4-1 in the 3rd period and blew the lead and then lost in OT....for those not familiar with how hard it is to score 3 goals in a game let alone in one period, it probably is the same as blowing a 10 run lead in the 8th and 9th inning in baseball....unbelievable.

Bull$hit league call on Torres hit.

I didn't realize that the hearing is over and a decision is out. How many games did he get?
Any word on when Havlat will be back?
GB54;842123414 said:
I was referring to the hearing itself. Doubt he gets summoned to New York and cleared
Quote:
San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety at the NHL's New York office Thursday for a hit on Jarret Stoll of the Los Angeles Kings in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinal series on Tuesday. He is suspended pending the outcome of the hearing.
Mr. Frumble;842123424 said:
Given his history, I think he gets at least two games.
So no word on Havlat? He had a pretty miserable year, but had been coming on near the end of the season and has had some very good playoff runs in the past.
Quote:
San Jose forward Martin Havlat will miss his fourth straight game with a lower-body injury on Tuesday when the Sharks take on the Kings in their Western Conference semifinal.
Havlat, who was injured during Game 1 of the Vancouver series, has resumed skating with the team but still isn’t ready to return.
It remains something of a mystery as to what Havlat’s injury is — all he would say is that it didn’t occur when Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa jabbed him between the legs.
When asked if the Czech winger could return during the Kings series, San Jose head coach Todd McLellan said “we hope so.”

He didn't launch himself so it seemed like a bogus call. He did have a shoulder to partial head hit, but the defender was lowering his head which you shouldn't do.....he does have a hearing coming up....

Watch out Toronto. San Jose is trying to take your spot as the biggest choking dogs.

I don't watch a lot of hockey (pretty much only the playoffs), but is it normal to have a penalty called when the puck seems to have been randomly deflected into the crowd? Because on the face of it, that penalty looked like bulls*** that basically handed the Kings the game.
Quote:
A defensive player in the defensive zone shoots the puck directly (without being deflected) over the glass. This penalty only applies if the player shoots it over the glass. If the puck is shot into the bench, no penalty is assessed.

The question is whether he deliberately shot it out of the rink. I don't think he did if it was deflected but nobody seemed to want to discuss this on the broadcast.

It really looked to me like two guys just battling for the puck and it was accidentally deflected out of bounds -- really did not look like a deliberate shot to me. Or does intent not matter? If it goes off the defender out of bounds it's an automatic penalty?
GB54;842123606 said:
No, if it goes off the defender it should not be a penalty.

So intent does matter. In that case I'm going to say the call was B.S. -- the Sharks defender did not deliberately shoot the puck over the glass. Really a rough call as it gave the Kings a double power play at the most critical point in the game.
