Even a bunch of the fan made hype vids on youtube are better than the stuff our AD comes out with. Don't we have like a state of the art vid production dept now??

I guess it depends on whether or not you want football in your football video. They're just different aesthetics. You're not gonna get movie quality from practice footage. If you want to see the team, our video's way better. If you want back-flips, close-ups of the players' faces, and a rip-off of the 300 (I understand that this can get people pumped up, which is legit in its own right), SC's is.

I thought the video was great!

To each his own, but the USC video seems more like a cheerleading gimmick for people who get excited about seeing Matt Barkley in a tank top and a bunch of guys jumping on each other in locker room.

The Cal one lacks the theme music and cinematography, but at least it actually shows some football.

After looking at the USC video, it is definitely more a taste issue. I MUCH prefer the Cal video because I would rather see some on field football (even if it is practice and spring game 80% of the time) than a bunch of close ups of players faces after doing slow motion back flips to "epic armagedden-ish" music.

Of course Cal doesn't have a long history of Dykes era great plays either, since it is a completely new staff - so showing practice, coaches coaching, etc would seem to make more sense for something letting us know it is 100 days to the beginning of a new era.

Perhaps my view is clouded by the fact I saw parts of the USC video seemingly 214 times in 2012 sitting at the Coliseum - interspaced with a close up video of Orgeron yelling, "we...are...S...CCCCCCCC!" - while we were doing just enough to not win the game.

Not saying everything that comes from Cal Athletics is fantastic stuff, but if I had to choose between the 100 days to kickoff and the USC video sample - I would definitely choose the Cal video.

Fair enough. However the point is more about quality, not content. There are plenty of football footage vids with the same quality as this SC video. With the right effort and talent, you can make anything look great.

But yes, through blue colored glasses, this vid is great and anything SC sucks.

Not to be a jerk, but how can you like that video better? Handful of guys standing around in the locker room yelling? Give me actual practice plays of our players in our new offense over that any day of the week.

I guess my bigger issue is with how bad our marketing/PR teams are.

I didn't mean to say anything produced by USC sucks. I certainly see your point about the video quality itself.

I may have misunderstood your point and meant to give my opinion of the tenor and style of the video (live football and coaching action vs. closeups and glares) itself.

We've put out other videos in past seasons with more dramatic music, etc - but seems they always includes plenty of shots of fans, shots of Memorial Stadium under the lights, a large number of highlight plays, etc - probably more the tastes / preference for whoever does this stuff for Cal.

Hey no big. But yes quality is just not there with our stuff right now, same goes with our non athletic stuff. Then again I'm obsessed with all these things and want our brand seen in the best light possible.

Kenny Lawler made some pretty insane catches on these clips! Looking good!!

Amateurish quality to it..lacking some flow and close-ups/angles could have been more dramatic. Lacked inspiration even though the energy level was okay..Sort of a spring game highlight film..a couple more player comments? The empty Memorial Stadium seats weren't helpful to the basic premise (fill the seats!) I agree our marketing dept has always been hard to figure out (ie gameday t-shirts..**** poor promotional concepts)..The music really killed this video. I presume there will be some upcoming promo videos as well that might serve with a more polished, professional feeling..Cal students, for example, would probably ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ through this..100 days though is a nice vision! Go Bears!

I recall some time ago, Treggs saying he expected to score 50 against Northwestern.

Not to get into a detailed description on why or why not that will happen - afterall it is one of the team leaders just excited about the new offense - but my brother and I were kidding each other that should it happen, we'd be the ones hugging each other and crying in our seats with joy after watching what posed for offense 10 times in 2012 (the only two games I did not attend or travel to were Washington State and Oregon State).

The music wasn't too bad... I expect the videos to get better as time goes on... The beginning with the Cal and bear claw marks was pretty cool

Very nice video ... sights and sounds of football ... glimpses into real practices ... very nice

different types of videos for different purposes. I think there should be a mix, but (for example), if you want professional, he is an example I like better than the SC video...it actually shows Cal football:

Yup...that's a nice one. I hope to see these types of videos once the season starts and we have some real game footage to piece together into a great video piece.

That's the difference for me. It's not just that the Cal video shows some football action, and the USC "video" does not.

There is not a single video clip in the USC "video", just a bunch of stills put together in a video. High production value, but content-free.

no one cares about content when it pumps kids up and looks cool as hell

that's part of how they get kids interested in going to SC at like 14 years old, and also their fans excited about the season

Other Cal videos are out there also, but probably won't satisfy the people with $c envy.
