Hearing tonight that Everett Gholston, starting QB for the Irish, has been kicked out of Notre Dame. A former player told me tonight Gholston got kicked out for "cheating", specifically plagiarism.

Crazy offseason for ND... Te'o, revelation that Charlie Weis' buyout has the Irish on the hook for $19 million, 5* DT Eddie Vanderdoes reneging on his LOI and now this Gholston thing. Unreal.

Not really "unreal".

People love to hate on Notre Dame. Even I love to hate on them at times. But not all schools would kick out their starting qb after a 12-1 season because of cheating. Good for them.

+1

On the other side of the spectrum - in the SEC you have Auburn changing the failing grades earned by several of starters to make sure they could play in the National Championshp Game a few years back.

Lol I dont know how "good" it is for them. Good for their integrity horrible for their program. There's a reason they got shitted on in the bcs nc game. Alabama would never do this. Too bad gunner keil dipped too.

Wow. I am speechless...

They're done as a serious contender, if they ever were one. Good for them.

I cheated once in my life, on a chem test. Time to fess up y'all! I know most of you did it, at least once? That shame will follow me forever...

Plus 5 star recruit Gunner Kiel transferred in April to Cincinnati. But they still have Tommy Rees who has thrown for over 4000 yards and 34 touchdowns in his career so they aren't exactly destitute at QB. Whether they can be national title contenders again, (or pretenders after getting clown stomped by Alabama), is another story.

Tommy Rees is a really good QB. Possibly the best backup in the country. They will be okay.

Plagiarism is always a serious offense. But there are degrees of plagiarism. An improperly formatted citation is on one end of the spectrum, whereas buying a paper online is on the other end. Aaron Rodgers technically plagiarized in his NutriSci 10 class (a citation issue), but received no discipline whatsoever from Tedford (as far as we know).

I wonder what specific type of plagiarism occurred in this situation. All ND students sign the honor code, and this is taken very seriously. Good for them for enforcing it.

So true! In my case I was getting formulas to something I understood very little about. Moral of the story? It ain't worth it...

Unless your lucky. At some time your starter will miss time, and if your on a NC run, that could be the season. Having seen Rees play twice, he was a better passer that Gholston, and looked good, but there was a reason Gholston started. Gholston running saved the ND's bacon on many an occassion last year, and he was a much better fit for the offense which ran well, and had average WRs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

ESPN article now says he is Suspended. He is going to work hard to regain their (ND and family) trust. Whatever.

on this point. Check out their recent cover-up of rape allegations, which involve(d) a current player on the team: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/she-the-people/wp/2012/12/04/why-i-wont-be-cheering-for-old-notre-dame/

How about Tommy Rees, who was arrested for (and plead guilty to) resisting arrest and kneeing a police officer in the groin? He missed, what, one game?

Oh, and let's not forget Michael Floyd, who had three (3!) alcohol-related run-ins with the law, culminating in his spring 2011 DUI -- how many games did he miss? Zero. He was conveniently taken off suspension Aug. 11, fancy that.

And I won't even detail the weather-related tragedy, which is not entirely irrelevant to this matter.

comments like this bring to mind all the hand wringing that floods this board on LOC signing day. How many of the 5* and 4* recruits don't make it onto the field. Better to get good players who fit into Cal judged by academics and by personal character.

ND doesn't have a player on their roster whose name is Gholston. It's Golson.

I know. For Kelly to continue to care so much about football like it is the most important thing in the world, after that kid died on the tower, is just remarkable. How does he sleep at night? Who cares if he got to the national championship game? Who cares if they had such a special season last year? Win at all costs is awesome!

disregard for human life and dignity in the rape case. I savor witnessing Stanford beating them to a pulp on the Farm this fall -- it won't restore justice in either of these cases, but what else can we do?

And the pass interference and roughing the passer calls were absurd, to boot, both of which enabled ND to continue marching toward scores. Leave it to the P12 refs to botch it so. C'est la vie.
