A lot of people are referring to Tedford as if the entirety of his time here was the same. It was not. Though 2009, I believe, we were very good on the academic side of things. Academics were a priority. I vaguely recall the story about the DB who needed one class to graduate who was allowed to miss football in order to attend the class even though it negatively impacted the football team (he had a year of eligibility left and could have taken the class the next year). The later Tedford years were obviously disgusting.

There are a ton of sources for you to check out to find the answers - they're there.
And, whatever "standard" Tedford may have had, he failed, and because he failed, the team failed academically and athletically.
But, what the hell, he walked away with more mega-millions on top of the mega-millions he got while coaching.

The answers are where? I am not trying to be difficult, but I keep asking for a source for the assertion that Dykes has a higher standard than Tedford and for information about the differences, and no one has provided a link or source.

Basically this. Tedford is the classic "he had it and then he lost it" guy.
(Marcus Ezeff was the DB in question, I think.)

JT would make a great subject for an old MTV "Behind the Music" style retrospective.
Call it "Behind the Play Calling".
Young up-and-coming OC comes in and works magic with his team.
Everyone buys into his no-nonsense style of coaching - even sitting future greats Aaron Rodgers and Marshawn Lynch for too many TO's.
Team has high per game scoring offense and good academics.
Bowl games abound.
He can do no wrong -- "in Tedford we Trust".
Then when he makes it big time, he loses his way.
He goes for the blockbuster recruits.
Stops enforcing his "no turnover" policies.
Academics slide.
Bowl games disappear.

Cal coach Sonny Dykes just told me that DE/OLB Chris McCain is working his way back into good academic graces. Very good news for defense.

But does that mean he is eligible for this year?
"working his way back" can be interpreted different ways

Or maybe a republican blaming everything Bush screwed up on Clinton or blaming Obama for things Bush started. :p
We won't include those delusional types who think Bush didn't screw up at all.

JT failed on the field also.
Embarrassing record and losses

Personally I don't think it's in reference to McCain, but I guess you never know...

Great news. McCain is so easy to root for.

What support do you have for the statement that Dykes has a higher standard than Tedford? I am not saying you are wrong, but I am curious about what your source of info is. Can you clarify the differences in the standard under Dykes compared to the standard under Tedford?

Watching him on the field he is.
But he does have a reputation for being a little soft (getting injured with minor injuries so often), I didn't like how he was voicing some displeasure at the coaching change, and the academic thing. I'd like to see all that change and glad that he's changing it already.
grandmastapoop;842142764 said:
Anyone who thinks he is soft is a fool. He gets dinged up because he is a warrior who always plays 100%. Even when he's undersized, he is fearless. He may have some attitude issues off the field, but if everyone on our team had McCain's heart, we would have won a lot more games the last two seasons.

But we needed healthy bodies to go with that heart - that is what was missing too often.
