I've been a season ticket holder for the last 5 years, but just got a parking pass for the first time this year. Originally I wanted Bancroft-Fulton because it is outdoors (tailgating), and closer to the freeway but it is closed this year, so I'm in Lower Hearst. I'm starting to think this is the worst lot that I could be in due to its distance from the Stadium, bars, etc. Those of you who are parking pass veterans, which lots are most desired/do you recommend for next year? Also, how much "juice" do you need to get a space in one of the desired lots? Thanks for your help!

Actually, I think you did quite well with Lower Hearst. Granted, it's not as convenient to downtown Berkeley as Bancroft-Fulton would be, but Lower Hearst has its own advantages and charm.

Tailgating - Level 4 is accessible from Scenic Ave (same entrance as Level 3; there's a ramp up) and is the roof of Lower Hearst parking structure. Typically, there is plenty of space and a number of folks doing their barbecuing/tailgating on Level 4.

Shuttle - The stadium shuttle stops at the bus stop on Hearst near Euclid, across the street from the Lower Hearst parking structure. The shuttle loops around Hearst Mining Circle before it drops passengers off at the bus stop just north of the Greek Theater.

There are restaurants and cafes on Euclid Ave close to Lower Hearst. LaVal's, LaBurrita, Jasmine Thai Cuisine, Bongo Burger, and Celia's are among the eating establishments in that one block of Euclid between Hearst Ave and Ridge Road. There's also a food court on Hearst a little uphill from Euclid that has 5 or 6 places, mostly (if not entirely) asian cuisines.

That's good to hear. Only problem is that I think they actually assign specific spots and I am on level c (3). Is it actually first-come-first-seve? The other problem is that my no-good friends (who all take BART), will never schelp their lazy @sses to the other side of campus.

@jjmoss1, how do you know there are assigned parking spots? I got parking passes this year as well and am also confused... Would like to know if there are assigned parking spots (how can you tell) or first come first serve?

Relax, you're OK. Set up your tailgate by the railing and enjoy the view. Also enjoy the shelter when it rains - you get both.

Seemed much farther than Underhill, which I go this year and have had most years.I don't do tail gates so that was not a factor.

I'm at work and I don't have the physical passes in front of me, so I can't say if they reflect a specific spot, but when I look at the pass I purchased through my online account it says Level C, Row 5, Spot 24.

Wait, did they get rid of the Top Dog on the north side? That sucks.

To answer your questions on which lots do you have to have the most juice to get into, the number one lot is the Boalt Hall parking lot. The biggest donors are there and a number of them have been in their particular stalls for decades. Number two is the Hearst tennis courts. After that it's a hodgepodge. Personally, I want to be farther away from the stadium for ease of egress since we always stay until the very end of the game. This year it's Underhill, which I'm not thrilled with but they keep shutting down the lots I've used in the past (Anna Head West, Anna Head and Dwight Way). Interested if others have thoughts on the most highly desirable lots.

Thanks. Since all I've got are young alumni seats, my "juice" isn't likely to get me into Boalt. I'm guessing the type of people in those spots have direct input on the hiring and firing of coaches.

What about Sproul and Dwinelle? They look nice, and the tailgate potential is there since they are outdoor and on campus. Are those good lots, or does the fact that they are on campus make them hard to get out of after the game?

Underhill! love walking up past the parties, Cal students, visiting teams, blasting music, hail of footballs, hawking of tickets, and sea of blue and gold...this was my game day when I was at Cal, and I love seeing that kids still get off on the same things now...(just one of the reasons I love Cal). I know we need those huge donors, but unless you don't get around much any more, I like Underhill.

and if you want, you can catch the shuttle...

I like Whitter...it's great because you completely bypass Berkeley traffic because you have to access it from Grizzly Peak and down through the canyon. Sounds like a pain, but it is the best access IMO, especially if coming from CoCo County. And, you are right next to the stadium. When I leave, I can be on 24 from Fish Ranch Rd in about 10 minutes from the final play.

I've never heard of anyone parking in those lots and honestly I'm not really sure/ would be surprised if they are available for football parking. Even if they were, I can't imagine the nightmare it would be trying to get out of them after a game. I know the online Berkeley parking map lists a ton of lots on its football website, but a very small number of those are actually available for season ticket holders. Just another charming example of the things I'd like someone to fix one of these days.

Wow, I just checked my online account, and it looks like I have an assigned spot too: LH Level C, Row 24, Seat 3. The parking pass itself says only 24:3. However in previous years in Dwight and Fulton/Bancroft there weren't assigned stalls even though the passes also had the numbers. Maybe it's just their way of making sure the number of passes equals the number of spaces available.

Huh, thanks. I just noted that too. I thought it was a biblical citation.

Great minds think alike. I loved the Dwight Way lot, I felt like it was some sort of secret parking space that I enjoyed. Loved the Anna Head lot too--wish they had built on Peoples Park and kept Anna Head lot. Liked Bancroft Fulton.

I have been in LH for years...coming from Davis I like being on that side of campus....I usually bring food, drinks, etc in and picnic by Campanile or sometimes
faculty glade. I arrive early and there are plenty of choices where to park.

I used to always park on the Northside. Good cafe on Euclid for coffee if an early (12 noon) game. Just head to the Faculty Club or I-House to drink and meet up with friends coming from BART or Southside before and after the games.

The only drawback is that you don't get to walk through the campus. That's one of the things that I like more than anything.

I did some "parking" in the Sproul lot during my Cal days. :woohoo Too close to the UC Police for my liking. It's not a very large lot and I'm not sure they use it for football, but with the loss of the Bancroft-Fulton lot, they almost have to use everything possible.

I have an ESP friend who has been in the Dwinelle lot for years and says some tailgating goes on there. However, egress may be a problem this year. I have some neighbors that we used to tailgate with in Bancroft-Fulton and they got moved to Schlessinger Way this year, which is the only road into Dwinelle. I think it's going to be a real mess for the first few games.

We were in the RSF the last few years, but got bumped to the Genetics garage this year, which is where we used to pay to park before we got a parking pass. My son-in-law is griping that it's too far away, but I told him to look on the bright side. He loves to walk through the campus and now he gets to see it ALL.

Dwight was a great lot. Couldn't have been more than a dozen of us in there. Was great for getting out. Also really miss Anna Head. Another good one, albeit a bit of a tighter fit. Sadly it seems like all the small lots keep getting eliminated.

I've been at Underhill for something like 20 of the 30 years that I've had season tix. I love it. I've been at Anna Head and Upper Hearst and have decided that I just prefer Underhill for the southside restaurants and activities. Now if they could just re-open LaVal's Southside ... I do sometimes go to the one on Northside, but it's so grossly crowded after games that I only do it when I'm REALLY in the mood for their pizza and beer

I've been to WELL over a hundred Cal Football games and twice that many Cal Basketball games and I've NEVER paid for parking or used parking passes that came with my tickets. I park on the street somewhere. Always. This is one of my adorable idiosyncracies that my wife tolerates graciously.

Yes, this presents tailgate problems. We usually agree to meet somewhere on campus. (Doing it this way DOES kinda make me look forward to "away" Big Games, just to be able to have a real tailgate.)

Dr Danger mentioned Whitter. We went there last season for a couple of games because one of our ESP buddies has a spot there. Yeah, great ingress/egress for him, that's wonderful, but I felt like we were in a stall of a flea market or something. No ambiance whatsoever. I'm trying to think of a diplomatic way of telling him we can't make it there anymore.

Just emailed Gold Standard and they said there is no assigned parking spots at Lower Hearst... first come first serve parking. Hope that helps to clear things up for everyone who has parking in LH this season.

We parked at Wellman when I still had season tickets. Don't know if that is even an option anymore. It felt like a private lot. No more than 10-15 cars, and the same people had been there for years, and always had a huge spread of goodies. They were totally welcoming to us newbies to the lot, and we all shared food and beverages. It was a bit of a walk to the stadium but we always went by way of Sproul for the concert anyway, so it was never a big deal. Easy access from BART if you wanted to have friends join you too.
