The throw was to open grass when made. Under estimated Treggs' speed over running the spot. Gunned in like it had to be. So close. End of the year, they hook up on that one.

Halftime and I have a few thoughts.

Offense.

Bigelow has 9 carries for 76 yards. His long is 33, but that still means that his other 8 runs were for 43 yards. He's averaging over 8 yards per rush.
Lasco and Muhammed combine with 5 carries for 2 yards. Can we not give them the ball anymore?

Goff is 13/22 for only 137 yards. No INT, but this hasn't been a very impressive debut.

Overall, the offense hasn't looked all that good, but hasn't been absolutely terrible.

Defense
Northwestern has 71 yards rushing on 19 carries, but 33 of that came on one run, so the rest is 18 carries for 38 yards. The Run defense has actually been quite good.

However, the QB is 15 for 20 and 199 yards. We need to cause incompletions. I don't care if they are INTs, Sacks or just fall incomplete. The key is that we have to defend the pass a hell of a lot better if we want to come back and have a chance.

17-10 after a half isn't terrible, and overall is about where you'd expect us to be against a top 25 team that returns nearly 20 starters when you have a new head coach, a true freshman QB and only 12 returning starters. But we should be doing better and I'm hoping to see improvement in the second half.

Yeah, not impressed with D. In the Pass happy Pac12, it's going to be a LOOOONG season. We knew our secondary was thin, but these guys didn't improve from last year. Hopefully McClure gets more confidence in his knee to go all out. He's playing timid.

mvargus. I would love Goff to have played better in the first half, but for a true frosh in his first game, he has not made any horrible mistakes, and kept us in the game. Yes, the pass to Treggs could have been in front of him, etc., but Goff has not hurt us. The space our DBs and safeties should be your real concern. Buh had better adjust at the half. McClure has been over 5 yds off and turned around on a number of plays.

Goff has also got lucky a couple of times, one pick six was flat dropped.

Avery - right ankle injury - done for the night. At least it's just the ankle and not concussion related.

Secondary will really have to step up - Drew gonna be thrown into the fire
