Last year Cal played a respectful 35- 28 loss to tosu in Columbus. In fact, the game was very much in doubt until the last minutes of the fourth quarter.

Also, note that Urban Meyer had no problem instituting a new program at tosu. Last time I checked he was 15-0 there.

Maybe Dykes just needs some training wheels.

Bad defense. No running game. Passing a lot for garbage yards.

In case you forgot.

2012 at tosu

CAL 7 0 7 14 28
#12 OSU 13 7 0 15 35

Rushing: B. Bigelow (CAL) - 4 CAR, 160 YDS, 2 TD

Ohio State at that point last year was likely nowhere near the team they are this year at this point.

Also, Meyer's program is STOCKED with talent. It's very similar to the situation Mora inherited. Both programs were loaded and deep with talent.

I loved him for what he did for our program, but JT let his program crash and burn in every respect possible.

So tell me. What is it?

Did we have a lot of defensive players leave last year?

or

Should we fire Buh, the DC?

I don't want Tedford back but I think he would've done better in all 3 of these games than Sonny has. As much as i like Sonny, we need to keep some perspective.

No. Because it isn't at ALL clear that Tedford would have started Goff over a Junior or senior and given our O line there is no way we could have run Tedford's preferred offense.

Now the game might have been closer - only because Tedford would have run out the clock. But we sill would lose both games and, most importantly, it would have been BORING!

I think the record would be the same and, yes, it would be more boring but i think our margins of win/loss would've been better. We definitely would be doing better on defense.

All I know is that I always felt we could have won that game going into the 4th quarter.

I appreciate what Tedford did, but let's be real. This team would've just rolled over and taken a 63-0 beating. At least our team showed some fight to at least try to climb back into the game.

You think so? Would we be 2-1 or 3-0?

Or maybe Bridgford at QB? Or maybe rotating QBs with Bridgford and Kline? I don't think the D would be that much better.....pretty sure the offense would be much worse.

Sounds like you should go back and watch reruns of last year's games instead of this year's. Let us know how it turns out with Maynard at the controls of the 500 page playbook. And have someone wake you when it's over.

How so? Last year we had a running game and controlled the tempo of the game.

This year we rushed for half the yardage, and most of it was useless.

Teams don't go from battling a highly ranked team to a 35-28 score away, then go to loosing by 30 at home without there being a serious systemic problem.

Honest question: How many times (and which games) did a Tedford led team allow the opponent to score 52 points?

I suppose running a quicker offense could be factor to giving opponents more opportunities to score.

You're forgetting how Tedford finished last season - we gave up 49 points to Utah, 59 points to Oregon and 62 points to Oregon St. We also only scored 9 points against USC, 3 against Stanford, and didn't score more than 20 in the last three games of the season (UW, UO, Oregon St).

Let's see how Dykes finishes after the Oregon game which I expect to be a blowout. If he gets more than three wins, he will have done better than Tedford last year.

It's like you've forgotten about all of the other abysmal losses last season - we can do a game by game comparison when this season is over to really see how Dykes stacks up against Tedford. I want to see progress and I like his playcalling way more than Tedford's complicated playbook.

Maybe my mind is playing tricks but I also remember that OSU turned the rock over at least twice if not three times last year against Teddy. Could you remind me how many sustained drives Jeff's Bears did last year? Cause I can't. Also it would have been the same blow out if Biges doesn't break 2...and then rides the bench the rest of the season without rhyme or reason.

Tedford loses today 45 to 6...with a meaningless FG in the 4th.

Schaden, I can't figure out if you wanted a different head coach, are just being contrary or are simply just the biggest waste of oxygen left on this site.

Your posts today have been unworthy of a Cal fan. They are insulting and largely unnecessary.

I notice that you didn't say much to support your little rant when you started this thread. And by doing so you were able to avoid talking about the reality.

Do you even care that Ohio State was 12-0 last year, is coached by a man considered one of the top 2 or 3 in the nation at coaching college football and is considered to be one of the 4-5 teams that have a legitimate shot at going 12-0 this season and ending up in the National Title Picture.

Do you comprehend just how important experience is, and that Cal started the season as one of the least experienced in the nation before 3 expected defensive starters went down with serious injuries?

Did you pay attention and hear that Ohio State's starting Oline is 5 seniors who all started last season, so they are experienced as working as a team?

Did you realize that Cal has only 1 full time returning starter on their Oline (Jordan Rigsbee) and that 2 of the starters never played a down in Div-1A before this season. (Matt Cochran an Steven Moore are both red shirt freshman).

All of that has a huge impact.

And do you remember that there was absolutely no major sportswriter who expected Cal to defeat Northwestern, Ohio State or Oregon next week?

Cal has an extremely tough season, and a start I wouldn't wish on an experienced coach with a 3 year starter playing QB. Instead Coach Dykes is having to try to guide a team that has little playing experience as they face tough experienced teams with solid senior leadership.

The fact that Cal has scored at least 30 points a game and has fought in every game is a very good sign. Our expected leaders on defense, Forbes, Sebastian, McCain have all had injury issues and that hurts. Right now our D tends to come out and play flat for 3-4 series. Then they settle down and we are very competitive. This is a fixable problem.

10-2 was always a pipedream. most people said that 6-6 would be nice, but that 4-8 or 5-9 were more likely considering how bare the cupboard is. Why don't you either show some patience with this young team, or if you are incapable of that, please just stay off the board until 2099.

Yes, but that QB played in more than 5 games last season and had played most of the SDSU game last week. He wasn't seeing the field for the first time ever. Braxton Miller has had injury issues for some time and Guiton got plenty of time on the field.

And when you consider the fact that Ohio State had an all senior, and all experienced O-line, that just made it that much more likely they would have a dominant offense.
