Isn't there a head official / boss of these officials on the sideline or somewhere nearby when they run off to tell them get back out there - you don't get to leave without providing an explanation? That's what us officials are paid for...
That's typical. Watch the end of any game, disputed finish or not. They GTF out of dodge. Usually with police escorts, least they get accosted on their way off the field. Seriously. It's this way even in hs, football and basketball. Officials have been attacked and killed. They don't mess around - when the game's over, they are out of there. It's just the reality of the sport.
