No Replay Review on Possible Treggs TD Catch?

It was 4th quarter and if memory serves the play was about a 30 yd pass to Treggs in the southeast corner end zone. Refs said incomplete on the field but the one in-stadium replay I saw (admittedly from clear across the stadium) looked like Treggs held on and got a foot in. I hadn't seen any discussion on this, so maybe it was a clear incompletion but it looked like it was worth at least a booth review! Do folks remember this play? Was it a catch or did the vaunted PAC 12 refs miss another call? IIRC we turned it over on downs that drive.

I saw the replay at the game.

The ball clearly flew out of his hands, threw his legs and onto the ground as he was falling onto the ground.

In the NFL, that definitely is not a catch.

As for college, not 100% sure, but I don't think it's a catch. He had it for a millisecond, but was falling to the ground and didn't complete the catch.

Thanks, I was looking at the south video board from Section W and through my blue and gold colored glasses it looked more legit.

Treggs snagged the ball inbounds and clearly got one foot down, however, he did not maintain possession throughout the process of going to the ground. NCAA rules are similar to the NFL in that regard.

My first impression was that the stadium's new parapet walls were awfully close to the corner of the end zone, and are not padded. Treggs was clearly trying to absorb any collision and I lost control of the ball as a result.

It was an amazing grab, stupid stupid rule in my opinion. He took like three steps, goes to the ground, the ground causes him to bobble it, and that isn't considered a catch with that dumb rule. Did we score a TD on that drive? If not that, the Powe drop of a sure touchdown (ball was high but catchable), and that overthrow of i think Harper on that deep ball where we burned em bad really hurt.

Yep, that's how I saw it too. I figured the rule must be that you have to maintain possession as you go to the ground, but I wonder how many steps you need to take before dropping it as you are going to the ground doesn't prevent the catch. I thought three steps with possession should be enough control that fumbling as you go to the ground shouldn't negate the catch. We didn't score on that possession either, which was in my opinion the last chance to have enough time to mount a comeback. I think it would have then been 52-34 with like 8 minutes left or something.

It should have gotten a review at least.

No points after the Treggs play (failed on 4th down from the 7). We got 3 after the Harper overthrow. I believe we came up dry after the Powe drop / overthrow as well. We definitely left a lot of points on the board in this game. On the other hand, tOSU dropped 3 easy picks and we completed one of those passes for a first down on like 3rd and 20 (the Bouza catch). Of course, that drive ended with no points.

I don't think tOSU would ever have been in danger of losing the game however - even if we put up 55 they would have figured out a way to score more - they throttled it back a lot in the second half. Bottom line though is that if our defense improves an iota and our offense cleans things up, we will be much more competitive with top teams.

Anybody have a clip? It sure looked like a catch from my seat, admittedly on the other side of the stadium.

Good point, you were hosed last year.

The referee watching Treggs did not make the call until he saw Treggs did NOT maintain possession through the play as he hit the ground. I agree it's a bad rule, but the ref was correct in his call of an incomplete pass.
