Hey...has anyone ever told you that you look like a twenty-years-older version of that guy who used to host "Bear Territory"??? The resemblance is uncanny. :p

For those posters too young to have seen these clips back in the day:

I would buy this in a heartbeat! As a 94-98 undergrad, I can comfortably say Bear Territory was the best football-related thing going at the time. The BT episode after the 94 SC fiasco was priceless.

Probably the best post I've read here on BI.

I'd like to address a few points.

As with any fan base there are always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch. With Oregon it seems like their bad apples keep multiplying every year. They have become arrogant & elitist. They are the worst trolls of the Pac-12 on social media & CFB message boards. They are becoming USC-esque fans.

University of Nike at Eugene. Phil Knight, the big daddy donor who IS Nike, has given the UO Athletics Dept millions upon millions of dollars to build the majority of new facilities the Ducks have on campus. Should Cal fans be jealous? Hell yes. Wouldn't it be nice to have our own "Uncle" Phil? UO gets the best of the best of everything from Nike, usually a couple of years before any other team, collegiate or professional. This also adds into the Duck fans elitist attitude with all of the cool fan gear, team uniforms and their 872 uni combos.

You have a serious disconnect from reality if you think Oregon fans approach the level of SC fans. Go on any board and USC will be routinely listed in the top 5 of schools/fanbases people around the nation hate, Oregon is not, so your point is not valid. You also complain about Oregon being elitist. No offense to this board, because I've enjoyed many of the posters here, but there is a snobby sense of elitism from Berkeley graduates that resembles a watered down version of the Stanford snobbery. You can turn your nose up at UO all you want, but a Berkeley degree won't open that many more doors than an Oregon degree would. You say you don't want to be like Furd, so stop copping their attitude...

whats your definition of that many more doors? lol

it just depends OBK. the oregon fans that i used to know and observe were from the older era when oregon wasnt any good. your fanbase got a lot younger, drunker and a lot more active on the internet in recent years. its hard to gauge because the older oregon fans are very much still a pretty humble group but the younger ones, just kind of a pain. see ducktildeath. but the younger ones have never had to endure losing times, hence their kind of whining, spoiled children kind of attitude. the difference between oregon and usc, theyre almost all a pain at usc. old and young alike.

berkeley grads definetly have a sense of elitism but at least we're open minded. furds mostly arent and smuggness defines them.

Dude. This isn't an Oregon board. Step your game up if you want to be here. Use logic.

Yeah, no. He said that Oregon has the worst trolls. I'd say it's debatable, but since USC has been good for so long and is in such a larger metropolitan area, I'd say they have MORE trolls. Oregon trolls may be worse. It's close - certainly close enough that rejecting someone's opinion as "not valid" isn't called for.

Read it again if you're having trouble. And while you're at it, if you're going to deem people's points "not valid" based on YOUR internet research, come with evidence (if you're still having trouble, that means links) or STFU.

Can't really argue with this (although if you stick around here longer you'll see it's a different kind of snobbery).

Yes it does. Graduate degrees especially but undergrad as well. By this logic, all college degrees are equal. They aren't.

I know this is a weird to admit, but I can't remember very much about the show. We were working 70 hours a week to get each episode done, plus travel, and we were exhausted. We only watched a couple episodes ourselves, so it's always fun to have someone remind me of stuff I did...and I usually still think its pretty funny.

What did we do in that episode?

I don't have the world's greatest memory, but I do recall it being somewhat introspective/melancholy for the most part with maybe some existential angst, and then a healthy dose of making fun of tommy trojan to his face which of course flew over his head. It made me proud to be a Cal fan.

CONTINUED, PART TWO

I felt so bad that I moved to the front row and starting yelling "Go Bears. Hang in there." Security moved close to me and looked like they were going to throw me out, but I just kept saying positive things and not confronting any Ducks. So they backed off.

Read your whole piece. From what I heard from others who were up there, you captured it. Great article. Great insight. Thanks for sharing.

Letter sent from an ex-Duck player to The Oregonian titled "I love the Ducks. I hate the Duck fans":

-----------------------

I, for the first time, attended a ducks game as spectator. I was excited to experience tailgating, cheering, and being with friends, rather than the seriousness that comes with preparing for a game. My buddy, whom I had given tickets to all throughout my time as a player, decided he wanted to pay me back and offer me tickets in corner end-zone seats as a regular fan. I accepted his offer with enthusiasm.

We enjoyed seeing friends, shaking hands, and sharing drinks with fellow supporters.

My friend and I took our seats where I soon became acquainted with the most ignorant people in all of college football. Directly behind me were a couple of drunk (expletive) who criticized Marcus' ability to throw the football, DeAnthony's ability to run the football, the lineman's ability block, and the coach's ability to analyze film and call plays. After hearing so much ignorant (expletive), I turned around to tell the "fans" to chill the (expletive) out. Marcus had overthrown a receiver on a tough play and the spectator made comment, "Hey, Marcus! Throw it inbounds, dumbass!" in, which I finally had enough, and turned around and asked if he would like to get down there and take Marcus' place. The man responded, "No". Then I asked if we were all still rooting for Oregon, in which he responded in an aggressive, irrelevant and incoherent manner and so I decided to discontinue the conversation I had started with him.

I was then verbally attacked by other spectators saying, "you need to keep your (expletive) mouth shut, because you don't know (expletive) about football." They claimed that I didn't know that they had coached college football, and that I had no idea what I was talking about. Ironic to say the least, considering my background and what you know of me, what my old teammates know of me, and what my old coaches know of me.

Not too long after, a woman a couple seats down yelled for 10 minutes straight about how the players were playing like "(expletive)". The coaches were being "(expletive)". The refs were being "(expletive)". All during the time I was telling my friend how embarrassing it was to have her on our side. And then I started hearing laughter from the surrounding crowd and encouragement of that behavior. Is this really what goes on in the stands? Is this really the type of people we attract???

I remember walking in from fall camp practice and talking to my teammates about how similar our lives were to the TV series Spartacus. We were slaves. We were paid enough to live, eat, and train... And nothing more. We went out on the field where we were broken down physically and mentally every day, only to wake up and do it again on the next. On the outside, spectators placed bets and objectified us. They put us on pedestals and worshipped us for a short time, but only as long as we were winning. In the end, we were just a bunch of dumbass (racial slur) for the owners to whip, and the rich to bet on.

What I described is a business, I know. It's how it works, and it is something we understand as athletes entering the system, as (expletive) up as it is. For many people entering that system, it's better than what life has to offer elsewhere. So they take it. But having been on the outside now, to witness this disgusting display of "support", I know that I want no (expletive) part of it. I will never attend a duck game as a spectator again. I am disgusted by duck fans and I will sit back and observe from afar with high hopes for the player's success and understanding of their sacrifice, without having to hear the spoiled woes of ignorant fans.

I will always love the ducks: my coaches, my teammates, my brothers and family. The rest... Go (expletive) yourselves.
