Not meant to be a flame or a troll thread, but Goff seems to have a fumble per game where the ball slips out of his hand right as he's throwing. And I'm not talking about the Oregon game as I recall this happening in the other games as well. I wonder if he's gripping the ball too lightly.

I like Goff and this isn't meant to malign him but it's just a bizarre fumble that appears to happen on a regular basis.

The Bear Raid is predicated on getting the ball out. Goff may have the quickest release I've ever seen in a Cal QB. So smooth. That said, he has to continue to get better. Maybe he's rushing too much at times (most of the times -- minus the Oregon game -- it's terrific). I think part of that is strength. Dude is still very skinny.

Maybe he has the infamous small hands syndrome like has been pegged on Alex Smith??

Well, if $C can hire Tedford, maybe we can make Kiffin ballboy, and he can underinflate a few for Mr. Goff.

Not accurate at all. He's got pretty long fingers apparently.

FWIW, Goff was known to have a few fumble issues back in HS whenever he took off with the ball. A bit different issue that he's shown here, but still.

Goff is quick but not quite as quick as AR. Hell, AR had everyone thinking Tedford's "top-shelf" ball position was the cat's ass he got rid of the ball so quickly. Of course now we know that it was just ass but that's a different thread.

Hand size. Let's get freaky.

But really, you'd watch a kid measure his hand size against someone else.

After the fumbled passes, Goff's dad was quoted as saying, "Maybe it was a mistake for him to have attended the Garo Yepremian Passing Camp last summer." Yeah. They probably won't hit that one again this year...

Goff is still about a week shy of his 19th birthday. He just needs man hands. My grandfather was a carpenter and his hands, though smaller than mine, were bonecrushers. The strength and conditioning Goff has available at Cal is probably light years ahead of his high school program, so I don't see this being a significant issue going forward. But I'm an optimistic guy.

It could be sheer numbers. The thing is Maynard threw the ball far less and still had one fumble like that a game too. I think it's inexperience, probably rushing. In ZMs case they were last-minute pump fakes. Frustrating to watch.

During the Oregon game, Mike Pawlawski said that he may have been griping the ball [U]too[/U] [U]hard[/U]. He said it is counter-intuitive, but in the rain, a looser grip is better.
