The glass half full view would be that he's an outstanding athlete. The glass half empty view is that our depth at those positions must be quite poor to need him to bounce around so much.

Both are true.
He's a versatile athlete and has been moved around trying to fill holes in our depth.
In his own words, LB isn't his preferred position but he'll do his best to become a starter.

like a decent olb who likes making catches.... i say he gets 2 ints on the year and least 7 10 pd his play in coverage will be key ..min 3-4 tfl

high hopes for a guy who's working out at his 3rd position in college, and has yet to see the field at OLB.

we'll be lucky enough just to have him as a dependable backer in the rotation.

but things always sound really good from practice. hell, Tiny was labeled a future NFL hall-of-famer before he even got on campus.

Maximo and Davison will be ones to watch to see if they will crack the rotation at LB. really hope Gibson gets his share of PT finally...

but ill say anyone that determined to win and to compete to do whatever it takes that is sell out for the cause .. he has not lost focus ... plus his love for pass catching playing a coverage LB will prob be good cause there will be pressure on the opposing QB's bad throw/ tips etc

just has to get comfortable reading defenses/ being disciplined

just a different feel vs last seaoson ... ray is going to get work looking good mix in with jalen barton and hardy with max and ray plus prob tandy or a freshmen
decent 2 deep cause i got a feeling the d will sub ant any point and will be ready and not caught off guard/ looking lost not lining up not marking their man or responsibility

I realize that I haven't been to any practices so I am not qualified to speak to his most natural position. But I fear that the staff has been moving him around way too much. He is a talented kid, but he needs to stick at one place so he can develop.

This seems like it could turn into another Gibson at safety disaster, where they take a talented player who could have been a key contributor (possibly even a starter) and move him to a new position that will take him forever to master. Result -- they basically waste a year of the player's eligibility.

Considering the holes in the DB ranks last year ....
sometimes you do what you gotta do.
Max seems to be adjusting to being an LB and has the ability and hands to be a receiver on D. Hope he gets a pick6 or two (or more).

But despite all the holes at safety last year, Gibson didn't see the field. We also had a lot of holes at linebacker. So instead of using a really talented player at his most natural position, the staff got creative and the defense suffered.

I have no idea if this is what will happen with Max. But I do know that a player can't be a good FB [U]and[/U] a good TE [U]and[/U] a good WR [U]and[/U] a good LB [U]and[/U] a good safety. They need to stop vacillating so that he can develop at one position.

They moved him from LB to Safety. As you say, we have some talented and experienced guys there already. That is why this doesn't make sense to me.

and when his position coach explains somehing he gets it .. good student of the game ... picks up fast... now his tackling is something he will need to tighten up on being in the front seven

but if he was that willing to do anything 4 the team ... im rolling with his being kwel and rolling with the punches

[U]Rumor[/U] is going around that Max has set a goal of playing the most positions in Cal football history and is well on his way to achieving it.

He's been seen doing superb work with the snap, hoping for a chance to work at C. Needs to do some heavy eating and intense S&C work to build his body but his snaps were reported to be things of beauty, perfect.

Cochran the Younger was seen in the backfield to take on the DL with Max releasing to take on LBs.
Interesting play was a short snap to Cochran, maybe for the Bone. Showed good form with low body running behind his pads.

Again, [U]just a rumor[/U] but MB probably hesitated to mention it for obvious reasons.
I'm sure everyone wants the latest news and rumors on Espitia's progression through the various positions and his new goal.

i think you got that one confused. hes playing OLB right now. last year he moved from Inside WR to Safety. This year he moved from safety to OLB
