My Streak Ends

I've had a little mini-streak going for home game attendance. Have made every game since '06 (including '11 when I miscalculated a family vacation and had to pull everyone out of Florida 2 days into a trip to make the Oregon State game). Unfortunately I'm going to miss this Saturday's game - and no, it's not because the team is struggling. If anything that makes me want to go more to support the kids. Have one of those irreducible work conflicts.

Anyway, got me wondering who on this board has the longest attendance streak. I know I was never really in the running given my spotty attendance in the early JT years, although I don't think I missed any in the 90s ( go figure). But I'm guessing there are some attendance die hards on here. Any nominees? Honorable mentions for Big Game streaks - guessing we have some impressive numbers there.

1973-1994 - missed one home game (UW 1975)

Since 1995 missed handful of home games due to work related travel

40 Big Games in a row - I am only 45 so I hope this streak can continue to a very high number.

How empty will your life be missing all the features of the NEW game day experience: piped in music, commercials, trying to get one section to sing a stupid old song?

Wow, hats off to the both of you.

And I thought I had something going with 7 years of being a season ticket holder since becoming a student in '04. I got improvements to make ;-).

Well, at least it isn't one of those pesky fall Saturday weddings that pop up here every year. I'm a little bit bemused that we haven't had one of those topics yet this year, but I'm guessing the decision is easier to make these days.

Congrats to people on their streaks and supporting the team even during the down years.

Oh dear, have I offended someone who likes the "new" game day experience?
:p

Happily, TV commercials block that "experience".
Happiness is hugging my warm puppies.

Maybe it's because no one schedules weddings as late in the day as P12 football games...

I had a streak of never leaving a game early going from 2005 until 2011, when I had to leave the ASU game at halftime (we were blowing them out) to get ready for a trackday. As for as going to all the home games and Big Games, my streak was broken this season after I moved down to LA .

Haven't missed a home game in 20 years except for the 2006-2007 season because I was in Colorado for college. I am 25 and my family has had season tickets for the past 20 years. I have never missed a Big Game so 20 straight. We started with two tickets, Mom and Dad because my sister and I could get in free. Then as we got older we moved to 4 tickets and then 5 once my younger brother was born.

Section U row 48 for 18 years and the past two have been Section U row 47 to accommodate the people we like sitting with and have sat with since almost day one. My brother goes to school at Ole Miss now so he isn't around for games. My Dad and I are at every home game regardless of time, weather or opponent. My sister and Mom attend 3/4s of the games each season. We NEVER leave early!

Even in down years like this one, I can't think of a better way to spend my Saturdays. It may be a curse to be a Cal football fan but it's a curse I will gladly live with for the rest of my life.

Missed two home games as a student at Cal, Presby at ATT and Wash last year because of the flu+awful weather.

Post college I don't have anyone to go with because my friends either moved to LA or out east, or never really gave a ****. Props to those of you tht manage to go 5+ years.

Except for government mandate, I have not missed a home game in 32 years. Damn government.

Also, I have "never" left a game before 0:00 (again, government mandate - forced me to leave the 2001 UCLA game early).

What stinks is several times over the past 3 years I have thought about leaving, and stayed because of never having left before. Now it is like punishment for never having left.

So, other than under threat of brig time, I have never missed a home game of left early

My dad and mom have been going since the '70s. My grandpa has been going since his freshman year in '37 (makes it easy to remember what year he was a freshman). He has been waiting quite a while for another '37. All of them have missed games here and there, though. Most recently, Washington 2006, when a cousin got married...Me and my sister went to the game, and I brought my (now) wife. We won on a Bishop int and Lynch ghost rode the cart. Then I "forced" her to go to grad school because my dad once said "You have to find a girl who has a graduate degree from Cal to be happy."

I think the best part of Cal football in my family (aside from the thrid generation)
Cal tricked the crap out of my family.
My Grandpa's first season (again): '37
My mom's first season: '75

OTOH, my dad remembers games when he could bring his books to the stadium to study (for the people that think today's students dont show up for games, or we dont yell loud enough).

My sister and dad post here occasionally, and my mom lurks. Most of my group of 14 mentions my BI antics when I see them

Every game in the late 70s and 80s? Holy Moly, that is some suffering. And to have these numbers by the age of 45? I think you'll break all kinds of streak records by the time you go to that giant stadium in the sky. Congrats.

Love the stats. We are the same way--never leave early and could not think of a better way to spend my Saturdays. When I was a kid and Cal played brutal football, I still loved to go. The environment was awesome---its still awesome to go ---but its definitely different.

I try to be stalwart but cannot get to all games. For instance, my son's soccer game took priority over Washington State.

I did give my tickets to a Cal family who has played for Cal however.

In the late 70s at least I felt like we had a chance of winning. Plus I just loved going to the games so while I got upset as a kid if the Bears lost, I was just happy to go. In the early 1980s I was fortunate to work for the team in various capacities so there was no way I was missing a game. I felt like part of the team and was in the inside. Great time for a 12 year old boy.

Love the family color Phantom. It's great to think of multi-generational streaks. I'm the same way on the early departures from the games (which my family sometimes complains bitterly about) but boy was I tempted a few times last year and in '10.

Thanks...plan to continue and now my son is part of the game day experience. Fortunately for him he likes to go to the Cal games for the college football experience but his heart is with his mom's alma mater, Oregon. I think he will be saved a lot of pain.

Really? This is what your contribution to this thread is? OP asks a serious question, and without provocation you decide to add this drivel? I pose the question back to you, how empty is YOUR life?

I've already kicked my dog...and I'd like to kick the Cal marketing person that approved the Dish TV ads on the screens in side the stadium. Red and White ads? Really? Maybe you could throw in a "Go Cardinal" while you are at it. Game day experience is changing. Some changes are good and some not. Tell Dish Networks to do their advertising in Blue and Gold.

who have posted here, but since 1996, I've traveled from out-of-state to catch at least one home game per season. From 1996 to 2003, I flew in from Japan and from Honolulu since 2004. I became a season ticket holder in 2003 and have tried to catch most of the home games since then. Because of my age (74), next year may be my last for season tickets, but I'll continue to root for our Bears in all sports.

You might not have the streak for consecutive games, but Japan-Bay Area flights, even for a single game, is pretty damn impressive. Hell, Hawaii flights to catch a game, is pretty impressive.
