wr blocking

anyone else notice that our receivers suck at blocking? When we run quick wr screens we rarely get big chunks of yardage from them because other teams' dbs shed blocks and tackle (it'd be nice of our receivers could break a tackle once in a while but that's a different issue). On one play on Saturday a UW corner easily threw off a block from Rodgers, who was a tight end last year and in theory should be easily able to block a corner, and tackled the receiver for minimal gain.

Our main receivers are all healthy and all either started or played a lot of snaps last year so the typical inexperience and injury excuses don't exist here. Why can't they block? Is it just not something that Dykes & Franklin focus on (in which case why are we trying plays that require wr blocking to be successful)?

Conversely, our dbs are completely unable to get off blocks. Some of them get driven back 10 yards when other teams run these receiver screens. I miss Syd Thompson.

The receivers do not not block well, but there are way too many screen calls.
The opponent has spent hours working on defending them. Some of the receivers are small but so much is fighting the defender for inside hand position, I do wonder how much time we spend on it.

Last year, with NFL quality coaching, the players were soft. This year, with pop warner coaching, the players are soft.

Buh can't coach blocking.

The cult of :tedford has me, now.

You can only hold a block for so long when blocking for our predictable "East/West" , slow developing running game. The players are taught to stalk block for as long as they can, with the RB having to make a commitment of turning North, not just running to the sidelines. Our steady diet of bubble screens is well scouted and the pursuit speed of the inside backers usually kills the play.

Off tackle and inside gap running plays are easier positioning for the WR's to get to the Safeties or screen out the corners. Got to put your players in good position with less predictable play calling.

We're not physical enough at any position right now imo. There's enough raw talent for this to be a 3, 4 maybe 5 win team as a baseline, but most of the stuff we fail to execute is because we're tentative and we get punched in the mouth almost every play. Until we grow up and at every position start being the bullies out there rather than getting bullied, it won't matter how skilled we are our how well we can technically execute, wins are going to be hard to come by. Hopefully most of this is just a function of being young and having the confidence beaten out of them early this season, and not a reflection of coaching attitude or psychological makeup. Only time will tell, although it does seem there has been at least an effort to play more physically lately. That's really the biggest positive I've seen I think.

We blocked quite well the short time under Chandler. He seemed to make downfield blocking an emphasis. The Ducks make it a big part of their offense. Many seem like holds though...

Or cut blocking behind the LOS while the ball is in the air. That just seems bush league to me.

Our WRs usually don't block as well as the other team's WRs. It is good to look at the individual battles in the game and compare that to the other team:

Does our QB have time and the other QB not?
Do our guys break tackles and the other guys not?
Does our DL get penetration and the other team not?

Etc.

We will win when we can answer "Yes" to more of these 'little battle questions' than "No".

And "No", our WR do not block better than the other team. And "Yes", Oregon's WRs are great at blocking. And "Yes", sometimes they hold and get away with it and "Yes" they legally cut block at times and it is not bush league. The football rules are cutting out everything that is dangerous. If it is still allowed it is about as safe as football can get.

Please explain how a block that is legal in college football is "bush league"?

they seemed to do better last year ... should the playbook have been transitionally moved from the old to new ? mixing some old plays with new ?

* side note i did this on the ps3 ncaa14 .. i had to put in certain old plays
( main stays) then mix the air raid plays ...

How different are the wr blocking duties between the different offenses ?

then next thought is .. they were blocking last year ...what happened? KA21 said wes was a big asset ... NFL guys hold a different kinda weight with the kids face it ( would loved to see him work with wrs in another year )

come on inside wrs step it up .. is it they do not want to ? do know how in this scheme yet ? im thinking blocking in space has got to be a science ... can we tech it to ours please ..

i meant to send this earlier this morning ...
