Goff has thrown yards yes, but can't win games. First game with a TD with first string Defense in who knows how long. But came with two picks and should have been several more. No leadership, makes more decisions. Idk guys. I'm over the season. We r stuck with sonnys decision unfortunately. I didn't see the game today (direct tv at work only). Someone with more insight, plz feel free

Goff made some nice throws and he made some terrible ones. Overall, I give him a grade of Start Kline.

Doesn't matter. Goff is gonna start because Sonny likes losing. Every other position is musical chairs.

2 ints to kill any chance of winning. :headbang

Good arm, questionable decision making, doesn't go through progressions well/stares down his primary receiver, no mobility. All in all our receivers make some great catches and make him look better than he is.

Kline sure isn't Michael Vick. We need Michael Vick

It's a team game but the two turnovers certainly killed our chances of winning. Defenses and OL played better than usual. QB has regressed over time.

Goff did not play well... His yards really came from good catches... Probably not going to be pretty against SC

"Probably"!?!?

Why so optimistic?

Good arm. Nice zip for short and med passes but lacks touch for long passes. Extremely slow. Tends to stare down on a receiver instead of going through progressions. Throws into coverages a lot. C+ at best.

Haha. A lot of the observations are the same thing we said about ZM. ( Staring down receiver, progressions, circus catches).

Exactly what I was thinking. ZM was more mobile though. Handled pressure better I think. Goff has a much better arm.

289 yards with 4 TDs. And he did this as a freshman with a porous O Line and weak running game. Who are you comparing him to? It certainly can't be any Cal QB in the last 20 years not named Aaron Rogers. WTF?

Our running game wasn't weak today. And Goff might be throwing to 4 future nflers.

With 2 INT in crucial moments. Third TD was made possible by that crazy circus catch. 60% completion. Not even remotely close to being AG-like.

Thank you @bearister. He's not there at all yet, but he's going to be pretty stinking amazing (probably starting next year). It's not his fault Sonny wanted him to learn on the job - most competitors say yes. He's still just months out of high school.

You get that when you throw the ball 56 times that 289 yards is not very good

You guys notice the 2 momentum/game killing interceptions or did that just go over your head

Very true. The silver lining is that Goff is a freshman, while Maynard was a senior.

the o-line was hardly porous either. granted az rushed only four for much of the game, but goff had time to throw today. he used that time to stare down one side of the field, many times only a first or second read. some really nice throws and some throws that were apparently meant for unoccupied areas of green grass nowhere near anyone. and lawler made two unbelievable catches.

Is a Freshman. I'd love to see Kline, but what do you expect from a Frosh? BTW, Kline is also Freshman. I suspect he might not yet be all-American caliber, either.

4 TDs is horrible? Look, I hated seeing Goff out there exclusively before garbage time for Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and UW. Today, though, was better. We got 28 points. I know you probably have no room for incremental progress because it doesn't fit with the win or go home sports culture developed by guys like Jim Rome - but today was better (on offense and defense).

He's absolutely brutal.

You don't get ranked 89th in the country... out of just over 100 if you are even remotely good.

Oh yeah, lets not forget he's 0-8 as the starting quarterback for Cal.

It's comical that some posters come in here and say how good he is.

These posters... simply know NOTHING about football.

There's some things that improved and some things remain the same. Arizona seemed like a much worse team than the other ones we've played so its hard for me to be certain that the offense has improved (defense has improved for sure)

Goff's first INT was atrocious... he seems to have a knack for giving up a big INT at the worst time.

I'll give him a bit of a pass on his second pick... it was 4th down and a pick in the end zone was about the same as turning the ball over on downs anyway. I was at the game, so I didn't see the replays, but I'll check the TiVo later to see if there was anybody else open.

I thought he had a lot more time to throw today... I don't know if it was better line play by our shuffled OL or weak pass rush from Arizona. I was expecting more from him given the lesser pressure today.

I actually think Goff is pretty mobile and has pretty good pocket presence. I sometimes wish he would use his wheels and take off running, but he seems to prefer to climb the pocket and look for open receivers.

I like watching Goff play, and I think he's doing an OK job... I just wish he would be a little more accurate/consistent and cutdown on the turnovers.

I've also been impressed with his strength as odd as that may sound. His last TD today, he stood in the pocket and completed that 30yd pass while being hit. Other times he's made nice throws with guys hanging all over him. He is a bit of a gunslinger... harnessing/tempering this is key.

90 percent of the posters on the basketball board told me I had my head up my rectum when I proclaimed Klay Thompson a god his sophomore year.

Lots of excuses from bearister and others. Frosh, frosh, frosh. Yeah we get it. I'm watching a freshman QB from Florida State who looks pretty good. Goff looks great at times but he throws too many picks and he fumbles too much. He is also slow and indecisive. He will get better but not better enough. Mariota, Hundley, Manzell, James Winston. Not all Freshman QBs suck. I agree with the guy who gave him a grade of: Start Kline

Well I'm pretty sure they are better than Portland State, and we got more push on the line and limited the big plays compared to our game v. the Vikings.
