Puts on Pollyanna costume

Coverage in the secondary.

Push by the DL

Buh actually seemed to have a game plan

With Lasco I thought for the first time all year that we had a running back (sorry Ervin fans)

Lawler, wow!

Edit: plenty of leg room, beautiful weather, the fog hugging the Golden Gate at sunset. Shot of rye post game.

Scoring on our first drive was a good thing.

Our D was solid and made a few impressive stops.

- We did not give-up any sacks, and had 3 on them.

- We held their rushing attack to like 100 less than average.

- Our running once again showed some improvement: Lasco 6 yds/carry, Ervin 4yds/carry.

Those come most to mind...
++++++

The real killers:

- 9 out of our 15 drives were 3 / 4 and outs.

- Lost the TO battle (2 INT's to none)

Defense played a solid game.

Daniel Lasco hit the holes quickly, ran hard, and finished runs. I hope his shoulder is good enough to take on more of the load against the Trojans.

It was an entertaining game. The Bears played well enough to win. Without those two INTs or without an odd call on Cameron, Cal could have won.

Totally agree about Lasco. He showed yesterday that he is clearly the superior back in our stable.

Despite having poor field position much of the game, we were still in it until the last int.

I'll play:

-Walker looks like he will be a player. Bulk up in the offseason!!
-Dozier looks like he could be solid.
-Jackson played very well.
-Hardy had his best game.
-Lawler to go with Harper and Treggs?? Wow!
-Lasco and Ervin.
-Moala

The same players played another game together. Huge benefit. Six injuries a week over??? If this group can play together for 3 more games, that will help a great deal for next year!!!

OL and DL did nice job
cam is tackling monster flying around everywhere (off season strength and weight gains will make him a top DB )h
Kam takes passes thrown his way personal

team is hungry

cut out the turnovers ... it came down to a super FG and safety

db's did not let anyone get behind them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!( i was tired of that)

Lowe did work also nice plays in space

buh called a nice game help him/them out tony /goff !!!...

When was the last time we saw a Cal DB hit a WR so hard that he made the WR drop a sure completion. I saw that on Saturday.

I'm saying Goff was consistent, but we scored 4 TDs, one in each quarter. That is very encouraging because it shows that our offense played 4 quarters.

We scored first for the first time since conference play started.

We were in the game for the whole game (sort of).

On the negative side: Arizona's offense consisted of 3 guys (#25, #10 and #7)-Carey at RB, one freshman WR and the QB. The QB ran the same read option running play for TDs and Buh never adjusted. Why? That cost us the game. The last TD, the players on D were not even looking at the QB and he ran right by them. That is inexcusable. If I had been on the field, I would have at least known that the QB was going to run it.

In any case, you mean we can't key on those 3 guys enough to stop them? We did an adequate job on #25, but we still had enough players left to stop #10 and #7. Where did those players go?

Lasco and Ervin are clearly the 2 best RBs in the team although I still prefer Ervin...he never stops moving and churning his legs. Lasco had one huge run at the end of the half when Arizona was planning a prevent D but otherwise their stats were identical.

My favorite thread in a long time. Fun game.
Loved watching the tackles stuff the middle.
Loved how Lasco attacks the hole or whatever else is in front of him.
Loved the fire of Lawler.
Loved the fire of Kam.
Enjoyed the Pac12 announcers explaining the strategy an what Cal needs to get better - who's the color man with Ted? He was great.

Checked out the Zona forums and it was certainly a nice change of pace hearing how our Dline exposed their weak O.

Agree with all that's been written. I also thought the overall game experience was improved. There was almost an entire absence of piped in music in the first half and when it occurred in the second half it seemed much less intrusive. As a result we heard more of the band during the game than I can remember occurring so far this year.

From this I'm inferring that our complaints are being heard. Congrats to the folks in athletics who are paying attention to this stuff.

Crowd wasn't huge, but the ones who came were loud and stayed put throughout the game.

And the chocolate eclairs in the Stadium Club were awesome. I ate about 20 of them.

Very surprising considering their 2nd in conf. Rush Offense went up against our 11th in conf. Rush Defense. I thought Ka'Deem Carey was going to have a career day. Only SC out of their 5 conf. foes so far did better against their run.

This gives me a tiny bit of hope for the Big Game (in terms of a quasi-respectable showing; their D is too stout) b/c the furdie Pass Offense is also weak and they depend heavily on their RB (Tyler Gaffney). Kevin Hogan (QB) has shown he can get some yards on his feet.

Yeah, I think Ervin is just as good as Lasco.

My impression (totally unverified) was that we had far fewer dumb mental mistake penalties. The false start number was very small and I don't remember an off sides penalty. That all by itself was extremely welcome. One of the main signs I've been looking for.

I know it seems odd, but I too think that this might be a decent matchup for us now...

We were in it until Carey got the last first down. We get the ball back, we still have a chance with a minute left.

Other good things:

Only down 5 at halftime (that's all I wanted -- I said that on the board -- to not be blown out by halftime)

I love the prospect of having Lasco (featured back), Ervin (short yardage back), and Muhammed (change of pace speed back) as our tandem in the near future. That's a pretty good trio.

Barton was really fast and shedding some blocks for a couple of TFLs. Looks like he's starting to get comfortable. If we can get healthy next year, because all these young guys have experience, we can be quite decent on defense:

line: Mustafa, Moala, Lopa, Barr, Kragen, Sina, Manley, SCARLETT!!! How about Whiteside?

backers: Fortt, Barton, Nickerson, Campo, Ragin, Jefferson, King, Broussard, Whitener,

DBs: Lowe, Avery, Dozier, Jackson, Lee, Walker, Lapite, Allensworth, Willis, Trey Cheek, Drew

This doesn't look so bad when we are healthy and with another year of experience. Key is to get some more o-line, d-line and DB help in recruiting.

Fortt, shocking as it may seem is gone after this year. He said last year he was two and out no matter what and now that he's a finalist for LB of the year, no way he returns.

That would be insane, unless he wants to quit football.

I thought Whiteside isn't with the team any more or something.

He's not but he came back once. I'm wondering if he can do it again. It's wishful thinking - but I really wish.

There were a lot of good things about this game. Most important, it was entirely watchable. We almost beat a decent team. Probably should have beat them.

Kudos to Cal for keeping their heads up. This team is young but mentally strong. Hopefully they are smart enough to not pay attention to the suspiciously large number of naysayers on this board.
