The interesting thing he talks about is how much guys had to earn playing time under Tedford. While people here like to make fun of the system and say it was too much based on seniority or kept inferior players in, Guyton has a good point that people really have to stay motivated in the long term in order to win those positions.

Guys this year have been forced into playing because of attrition and injuries. No, they have not earned the right to see the field. They have been forced into action prematurely whether ready or not.

He's saying the same thing the board is saying. This coaching staff is a joke. Lots people were skeptical when Dykes hired a bunch of noobs as assistant coaches. They were proven right and then some.

I like what he says. Certain critics can't tell the difference between what he says and how he says it versus the things they post. I don't think he will get burned on this board.

Not a lot of fans of the current coaching staff right now amongst football alums or parents.

Not saying Tedford didn't have to go, but the current solution might not be the right solution.

How much does bias have to do with it considering that these are all ex Tedford players and parents of Tedford recruits? Of course our abysmal season is a factor.

Fortunately, if Guyton is up at Memorial working with our guys he has the opportunity to fix some of the problems he sees. I remember that documentary on Miami from a while back, they said that if they lost a game all of their alums in the NFL would be calling them and ripping into them. Guyton does go out of his way to say it's not all the players' fault, but he's talking about issues that the players have (not respecting their PT or the guys that wore their number before them, etc.). Hopefully he and all these guys on twitter will do what they can to fix it.

I think it may actually be the other way. Normally guys are biased toward their old coaches (or against them if they had bad experiences). For example, Aaron Rodgers and his feelings toward the Tedford firing. Former players likely don't know Dykes and his staff (and that's by design, Dykes chose to keep no one around) so their bias is for the school, the program, and their former teammates.

In a season full of disastrous decisions, this one has got to be up there. It clearly didn't help with injuries (which couldn't have been worse) and I don't know if I've ever seen a worse tackling team.

They stopped tackling long before that.

The real issue here is that without support from our past guys, the program has no identity, history, etc.

If this staff does not have the support from alums, it is very bad for the future...


These are PUBLIC statements. I am a fool, and I could get a recruit to come to my house to eat Twinkies rather than play for cal with these kinds of tweets.

I don't recall Snyder burning bridges with kapp players or tedford with Holmes recruits. In fact, the opposite.

If dykes does no start off next season on a winning streak, he will be dead man walking by the time conference play starts.

Every new coach that takes over a program must make it work with existing players. You don't get 3 years until you have all "your" guys.

What about all that talk about adjusting scheme to fit the players? In fact, quite the opposite.
