I puked again after watching this:

Bunch of excuses but especially when he was asked about running. Dykes actually said we ran a lot, but not in the first half because they were "stuffing the box with 6".

Wow...

BTW the question after hearing clearer was "why did you pass so much in the 2nd half even when the run was working so well..." and Dykes answered with misdirection saying they were stuffing the box with 6 in the 1st half so we ran more in the 2nd half.

Cal tried maybe 3 runs up the middle in the first half. Everything was wide and of course they got stuffed. The Colorado OLBs start out outside the tackle box and were unblocked on their way to blow up the plays.

This statement is :bigpuke: It's a huge part of why I have to admit I will no longer try to defense Dykes. He lacks the insight to be a good coach, just like Tedford did. When we had Tedford as coach we all joked that the offense would go Run, Run, Pass, Punt. Under TFS our offense seems to go, pass, pass, pass, punt.

What's the difference.

Watching the game list night felt like :headbang:headbang:headbang:headbang

I may be wiling to be patient, but after the travesty that was our loss to Colorado, I join with the others who want Dykes gone. Just please get SB first, so she can't bring in the next head coach.

Funny thing is that Dykes wasn't my first choice. I wanted a defense first coach.

So Kline didn't give them a spark right away so he pulled him??? Like I said, these guys are clowns and are totally clueless and desperate. Let's quit wasting time and hire some real coaches.

There really is no football coach that will give a satisfying interview at 1-9. I've never heard anyone complain about 6 in the box. Maybe he's counting the box a little bit differently. I thought it was 8 in the box that was the run stopping number?

Some of those penalties on defense were killers.

Yeah, if a D runs a 4-3 that's just the 4 DL and 2 LBs in the box.

I can no longer defend Dykes either.
I am totally shell-shocked from watching this game.
The game was so bad it killed my computer (posting from girlfriend's) permanently. The computer simply turned off (over-heating?) and it won't come back.

I love watching Cal football. So let me know when it happens because I'm tired of watching other teams hold an elevated practice at CMS using our team as a scrimmage partner.

And in front of mostly their fans, too- don't forget.

The math is different in a spread. In a traditional offense w a te and a fullback you need 7 to match up with all the blockers, 8 to outnumber them. In a spread you need 5 or if the qb is a running threat, 6.

The roughing passer on campo was a killer.

Welcome to the club.

Next, can we have the NY poster.

I do not know why we expected anything different from this season. If there is one thing that we could count on this season is that the on field product and coaching has been consistent, consistently bad. The Colorado game confirmed what some just didn't want to admit but had been going on all season. Sonny & Company are way out of their league. They are in deep waters and have no clue how to get back to shore. I hate to say it but we can expect more of the same in 2014. There is nothing to make me believe that Sonny & Company can get this fixed in 9 months or pull a rabbit out of their @#$*& to help matters on the recruiting trail. That means in 9 months we will go through this again and further damage the product that is Cal football. This damage will take 3-4 years to undo and means that 2017 is our next chance to see an on field product that is truly representative of our distinguished university, Cal.

I'm reluctant to start a new thread...

But after just speaking with my dad, he said that the newspaper (Mercury News) had a recent article about the The Drive. I apologize if I missed here on the forum, but here's the gist of it...

I think it was the AZ game, but SD had commented to TF that this offense just doesn't work against anyone. He had asked that this commentary not make the final cut, and apparently that was the case (it was removed).

Old news? Maybe I just missed it...

It true, SD has probably realized that the TFS might be a no-go at this level. I wonder how safe TF's job might be.

That wasn't the quote. It was basically "we have good players... How have we gotten so bad?"

Thank you.

If you happen to know where that quote is, please share. I'll try a search later...

Either way, it seems to indicate some displeasure with the offense's continued ineffectiveness. That he wanted that portion edited-out is interesting.

I'm not one to start and even participate in firing threads, and if so, it was to defend (Buh in the early weeks), but if there's one I most want to see gone at this point - it's TF.

If the report of this quote is accurate, it is yet another glaring example of just how much Sonny & Co. are overwhelmed and out of their league. It gives justification to the of firing Sonny & Co. because they haven't got a clue what they're doing. Cal football can't take another 2 years of this lack of accountability by the coaches to the players and to the fans. Sonny & Co. have done enough damage to Cal.

What do you want Sonny and staff to do? Colorado was stuffing the field with 11 defenders! We can't score against that kind of defense!

The schools are allowed to make changes to the program before it airs, but project leader Jim Jorden said Cal has exercised that option just once all season.

Cut was a sideline moment during the Oregon State game when Dykes asks offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, "What's going on, man? How have we gotten so bad? We've got good players."

"When Sonny says something like that, he's human," Murphy-Stephans said.

I guess Sonny Dykes is shocked to find out that Pac 12 defenses are a little better than WAC defenses.

I'm not so bothered by the question. Sounds like a reasonably polite WTF is going on question to me. The part I'm more interested in is Franklin's answer. What's his excuse for this cr@p?

Whatever Franklin's answer, it would seem by the gist of Dykes' candid comment that he isn't buying the "lack of talent/injuries/Tedford left the cupboard bare" explanations/excuses. And if he isn't, neither should we.

If we get rid of TF, is it possible Dykes takes the offensive? He did prove himself as a PAC 10 OC at Zona.

Go Bears!

BearsWiin - thank you for finding that article. I'd like to think that SD is probing this aspect a lot more behind the scenes. Glad to see / hear that he's not so enamored with TF that he doesn't confront him on such matters...

I suppose that's an option, but another OC would be ideal, so SD could manage the team as a HC should...

If the offense would have shown some improvement, at least minimally as witnessed from the D, which is not all that much, there might be some reason for hope. It looks so inept, even against poor conference defenses...

We've heard all along how the kids had bought-in early and worked so hard, from inside the gym, and on the field. SD has said that they've done all asked of them and he has been proud. We've also heard how good practices have been too..

Something is not right.

Sonny Dykes is Cal's version of Buddy Teevens.
