I don't get the attraction of going to see a new football stadium. Once you get to your seat, the field looks the same as every other stadium you have been to. It's still a 100-yard field with two goal posts.

It's not like baseball where all the fields are different and the dimensions can have an affect on the game. Baseball stadiums all have that special feeling to them that football stadiums don't have.

Evern after all we had heard about the "new" Memorial Stadium last season, it never looked or felt much different to me.

This is an interesting question. Which pro stadium might be worth a pilgrammage a la ATT, Wrigley, etc? Maybe Jerry World for the bizarre nature of it? Redskins? Packers?

OTOH many college stadiums are worth a pilgrammage-tOSU, LSU, many others-etc. The reason being for the atmosphere not the stadium. Sandy doesn't understand this.

If we wanted an off-campus stadium, we should have built one. We didn't do that; therefore, we should play our home games in Memorial.

This.

There have been good points made by both sides. But after reading all the comments, nothing has changed my mind. I will not be going to a Cal "home game" in Santa Clara. If the Bears go to a bowl game, and it's played in the plastic confines of an NFL stadium, I'll go. Other than that, Santa Clara is not a destination that I, living in SoCal, am attracted to.

The bottom line is we are coming off a one win season. We are not watchable. My guess is we will struggle to get cal fans to any game whatever the venue.

I don't care about the 49'rs new stadium.
(Are they now the San Jose 49'rs?)

I can tailgate at Cal, where we have a new stadium, in a great setting.
Why would I want to go sit in a parking lot, and have to pay extra, for parking?
Fight terrible rush hour traffic, to get to, what I consider, is the L.A. of Northern California.

I enjoy and look forward, to my experience, at Cal, on a Saturday afternoon.
I have it "dialed in", so to speak.
Why would I want to deal with the difficulty of getting to SC?

Agree. You covered most of my gripes about having the game in Santa Clara.
I would also add:
1. There will probably be more Oregon students there than Cal students thanks to the expense and the distance from Berkeley.

2. I hate having to pay extra for a ticket to a "home" game. Sure Cal will get some money from the owners of the stadium; but part of that "some money" comes from the Cal season ticket holders who have already paid for their SEASON tickets for ALL HOME games.

If Sandy wanted to wring a few extra bucks from us season ticket holders I would have preferred she be straight and ask us for it. That way we could get a tax benefit for our making an additional contribution to Bear Backers.

Although I have been a strong proponent of Sandy on this board, sometimes she is really tone deaf to the concerns of Cal season ticket holders. This is one of them. She has already tried to force a Big Game in Santa Clara. Now she is at it again. Many of us who objected to the Big Game in Santa Clara did so because it was NOT a HOME game. Apparently she thought we were opposing it only because it was the Big Game.

Sandy, Please listen. Many of us feel that a HOME game should be held in Memorial Stadium. Plus those of us who are season ticket holders should not be charged extra for HOME games. If you can't figure that out, maybe you should consider resigning your position.
