Should this be public? Did Cal make an announcement?

I second your motion! Goff did a truly outstanding job, considering he is a true freshman who played behind a horrible offensive line. If we can acquire some decent linemen for next season and get back our injured starters, he could be really special next year.

Yes! Thank you, Jared. Have a speedy recovery and a well-earned holiday.

So, our starting QB had shoulder sx. The injury was not as minor as I thought it was. The next obvious questions are how serious was the injury and is Goff going to be at full strength for spring ball and if not then, how about the start of fall camp or the 2014 season? With the start of the season 9 months away, any missed reps takes away time he he would have with an OL that is bound to be revamped and the skill players (WRs & RBs). Timing is extremely important in Dykes' fast pace offense. For the sake of Dykes and Cal, I hope Goff heals quickly and is back to full strength for spring ball so his maturation as a QB in this system can continue and bring success for Cal in 2014..

Per Dykes, Goff is expected to be back for spring ball. Here is his quote:

"We are pleased that Jared is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the field for spring ball," head coach Sonny Dykes said. "We have confidence he can build on the promising campaign he had in his first season at Cal."

I don't have the link but there are reports. Apparently it's minor surgery and he is expected to be 100% by spring. I'm not sure if this hampers his ability to bulk up in the weight room (probably a little, if not a lot). And whether or not this affects his confidence, as apparently these injuries are very painful and pretty traumatic for a QB, nobody can say. Hopefully this is a small bump on his road to success, but we've seen so many bumps in the road turn into Mt. Everest, who knows?

Wow. Rough. Hopefully he makes a full recovery. Anybody know anything about this kind of surgery? Is it like a torn rotator? (I ask because I had an aggravated one for awhile.)

I've had two serious shoulder injuries (skiing) and both times got the lecture from my primary doc that unlike knee surgery there is no evidence that shoulder surgery actually is better then just rehab. Its all about the money. In many cases the patient is actually worse off.

Stupid question: Throwing shoulder? I'm assuming so, given the Athletic Department's failure to mention which one. If it was his non-throwing shoulder, the department surely would have mentioned that, right? I also vaguely remember the hit and seem to remember him falling on his right side.

Lad, a most excellent and courageous performance during this very interesting and challenging 2013 season. Onward and upward. All the best.

Go Bears.

He fell on his right arm so it's likely his throwing shoulder.

Not sure how this compares to to AB. Don't we have an orthopedic doctor here?

No, they're too busy being doctors.
