Darn. He is athletic and has a lot of potential, but he ain't even close to ready.

disagree. when healthy, he was a damn good corner.
plus, he's smart enough to know that he's not going to get better with the current coaching staff.

The NFL does not draft young, undersized cbs based on their potential.

Bingo. He's probably thinking he's better off on some scout team of an nfl team than playing for Cal. Really can't blame the guy. Can't wait to see how Sonny spins this.

If you think he's ready for the NFL, you know nothing about the NFL. The NFL does not draft young, undersized cbs based on their potential. Kam was far and away Cal's best cb, but that is not saying much. He showed flashes of great play, but was inconsistent (as you'd expect from a young player on a bad team).
I'd be surprised if the gets drafted, which is too bad because if he stayed and developed (both physically and technically), I think he would have had a chance for an NFL career.
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

I would be stunned if he were drafted. Maybe he'll slip into the 7th rd, but I doubt that. He's undersized and is a 4.6 guy. Steve Williams is the same height but ran a legit 4.3 and he was a 5th rounder. Kam is a good player but he's 3 steps slower than Steve Willy.

kam should be able to run sub 4.5 at the combine.

You wanna bet? :p
Kam was not even close to being one of the faster CBs during workouts.
dupdadee;842250783 said:
with training they receive to run faster 40 nowadays, he should be able run under 4.5.

plus, jackson wasn't that slow. steve williams got faster and ran a very good 40 at the combine. so can jackson.

Steve Williams was and is way faster than Jackson. Jackson will have very mediocre speed for the nfl.
Let's put it this way....if squid and Hughes struggled to make it at the next level, I don't expect Jackson to.

Its not a homerun decision, but it's surely better than staying (in his mind)

Steve Williams is/was faster, stronger, and a better tackler. Its a closer call on coverage skills (though I'd still take Williams) but its hard to see Jackson being a workout warrior and moving his stock very high. He will be lucky to get a late round shot.

A lot of criticism on his decision but in the words of Steve Mariucci, "What would you do?"

Its not like a lot of these guys are matriculating through school and have options if they don't like the new staff.

I'm not sure if you guys watched any Cal football in the last few years, because I can't remember Kam Jack ever giving up a big play. In fact I've never seen him give up a touchdown in the last few seasons. And why do you guys say he's not fast enough for the nf? I've never seen anyone run by him. Just curious...
